I was wondering if there are any recomendations for entry level or "homeowners" type models. I recently noticed that John Deere, Cub cadet and a few others are selling lower cost ZTRs. This would just be for home use, less than 2 acres. Thanks. :)

I belive Toro's Timecutter was last years best ZTR by Consumer Reports for homeowners. I have a Toro Z Master (commercial duty) for past 4 years and have had zero issues except for flat front tires caused by thorns. (Fixed with slime). Ran over a peice of metal that I didn't see once. Killed my 27hp motor at full throttle and bent one blade slightly. Started right back up and went on mowing again.

I've never had much, if any, confidence in Consumer Reports; however, I do have a Toro Timecutter Z (14-38Z) that I bought on 8/30/2004 and I've certainly been happy with it. I'm in a habit of blowing it off with the air-compressor after each use, but today I decided to try out my new pressure washer on it, then made some pictures. Otherwise, the only thing I've done to it in two and a half years has been to change the oil a couple of times a year and I recently decided to put a new spark plug in it, even if it didn't need it.

That looks brand new! :)

In spite of being two and a half years old, I guess it is almost new. It was ridiculous overkill for me to buy something like that for such small yards to mow. So even though I mow often, it doesn't take long so I don't have a lot of hours on it. In fact, I've been thinking about trying to sell it, along with the lawn sweeper, dethather, and trailer.

I'm looking for ZTR. How Much and how wide is deck
Thanks CT

I'm not sure of the exact overall width of the deck, but it's a 38" cutting width; i.e., Toro's smallest ZTR.

I'd only be willing to sell if someone wanted to buy the entire outfit; i.e., the mower, dethatcher, lawn sweeper, and trailer. The trailer was new in Sept. '05, the lawn sweeper and dethatcher in '06. Altogether, my cost was $4,197, including tax and I'd sell the whole rig for $2,500.

Last summer, after assessing how many hours I spent mowing and trimming around our evergreen trees on our 2 adjacent properties, I went and bought a Cub Z Force 60" at my favorite junk store TSC (The Wal-Mart of rural America). Quite honestly, it's a trouble free machine and the 24 horsepower Kowalski has plenty of power. What impressed me was the abundance of grease fittings and the stout frame. No stamped metal anywhere except the deck and that's a very heavy deep draw stamping. The pumps are HydroGear IZT, the same found on commercial units.. All in all, a nice, well built unit. Not something I would expect from MTD-More Tools Desired...:D

Wow, I must have priced it too cheap. I'd seen and heard of craigslist.com but never bought or sold anything there. So I decided to list this ZTR, trailer, etc. this morning on Craig's List; had a buyer in less than an hour, and 3 more e-mail responses plus 3 more phone calls.
