I only use steel fence ties. Aluminum don't get it. If you're going to use aluminum ties do us both a favor and abandon this thread.

I don't like aluminum ties. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use hook ties.

The first thing I do is modify the factory hook.

I slide it under the horizontal wire and then close the tie. This is important. Ideally the end will cross the tie and be put into a position that it can't pull straight.

I pull the tie tight and hook the next pair of wires. This is where the tapered ends of the pliers comes in extra handy.

Horses like to paw a fence. If aluminum ties are used or steel ones not properly installed often enough the fabrjc will eventually fall.

The fence ties aren't there for looks. Their proper installation and spacing is as important as the stretching and terminating.

I've got a tool I came up with for tightening the V Mesh.

It's really simple. I've got more complicated and more effecient one in the works. But this one works so well it's hard to get enthusiastic about the improved version.

In this picture you can see the V Mesh tight as a guitar string along the bottom and loose as a Mexican wedding dress skirt at the top.

The orientation of the handle to the fork makes the tool more efficient and easier to use.
