Around here, the farmers leave the corn on the stalk until completely dry. The corn will be pointed to the ground. Then on a very dry day, they harvest with combine. The combine takes the individual corn kernels off of the corn cob.

What will you do with your corn? Did you eat any when it was still soft and juicy?
