Grew up making it and made some just a couple years ago.
A silly story regarding it....
My (then girlfriend) wifes mother passed away. Maybe a year or so after she passed, they had a party at her parents house. This is 15 years ago.
We were going to make the ice cream. She pulled out her mothers instructions and we went at it...
Add some of this....
Add some of that.....
Add more of the other.....
Turn the churn on and let freeze.
Well....about
FOUR hours later, it still had not froze like it was supposed to. The party was on the tail end so, we dipped it out as it was.
Everyone of course, LOVED it....just raving about how tastey it was. She & I felt it was a bit rich....but ate it anyway.
The left over was put into the freezer. The next day, her father sat down to have some but wanted to cut down on the sweetness of it soooooooooo, he poured in a little milk. It immediately thickened up and turned "solid".
hmmm......what gives?
It turns out that her MOTHER knew to add the ingredients and "fill with milk to here" however, her MOTHER neglected to write that minor part down in her recipe.... I happen to be a retentive when it comes to following a recipe. I can make anything as long as I have the instructions and I will follow them to the letter. Even if it doesn't say anything about adding milk
We added some milk to the remains and don't you know it was pretty dangggggggggggg good!!!
There is a moral to the story in there somewhere, probably has something to do with never listening to your mother in law's recipe book?
:confused2:
