Hitch arms lever question..

What makes the lever spring into position after raising or lowering the lower hitch arms? I have a NH 1920 with 3pt hitch. The lever will raise or lower but has no tension. It just falls forward all the time, thereby lowering the arms on its own. Anyone have an idea on how this works? Thanks.

Are you asking about the lever by the seat that you move to raise and lower the three point hitch?

I can't say for 100% certainty on your tractor, but almost all tractors have a nut that holds the lever on. The lever pivots on a bolt. There should be a spring that is compressed when the nut is tightened and that increases the tension on the lever.

Bill, as Jerry says, I think it is just a friction pad. I think you tighten a nut and it changes the friction enough to hold the handle in place.

Ditto.. I had a 1920.. and I likes my lever set pretty stiff.. see what you can do about adjusting it.. Floppy lever is no good..

k...i just took a peek at it.....theres a crown nut on the shaft with a cotter pin going through the nut.....does this sound right?...I just need to tighten the crown nut?

Yep, that castellated nut is for doing just that: tightening only as much as needed to make your handle firm. I think you've found the solution.

As an aside...Many of the Boomers are sent from the factory with that nut too tight. It makes the position control lever so stiff, you can't feather the control. You want it to not move by itself, but also be able to make slight movements with gentle pressure from your hand.
