Considering building a house on my hillsde lot.The land is perfect for my needs15 acres, large road frontage, scenic, all hardwoods. My concern is the hillside, its sloped but very walkable and buildable.Anybody have regrets building on a hillside?

I built my log home on a hillside. I like it because half of my basement is exposed. The other half is underground. I put a huge picture window in the part that is exposed and made the basement the living room. The big window, along with a few regular windows gives it more of an open feeling in the basement. It also ventilates the basement alot in the summer and it doesn't get any mildew or musty smell.

In our neck of the woods everyone wants a walk out basement. If there isn't a hill....they make one! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I'd say go for it. And if it's too steep, that what Cats are for /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In 1943, my granddad bought a house that was built on a hill around 1921-23 with a walk out basement. My dad inherited it, and I think he sold it about 12 years ago. It's still standing, and we all liked it.

My house is built into a hillside and I think it works well for my needs. I like the look of the single level ranch style home, but I also wanted the room of a two level house. With a house built into a hillside I was able to get both.

Cool, where abouts do you live? I live about 20 minutes from the premiere GNCC race. The Wisp ski Resort. I have been racing Local and GNCC's for about 10 years now.

I have talked a few of my moto riding buddies that didn't think woods racing was hard into racing the the Wisp last year. needsless to say thier tounge was wrapped around their spokes by the end of lap 1. !!!. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

250 B class in GNCC's
250 A in local races.

I didn't know it when I was building, a walk out basement saves you money on your homeowners insurance. I was pleasently surprised.

We have had so much rain here in Oregon that houses are sliding off the hillsides, (no joke) that is something to consider.
