High Bay Fluorescent for Arena

At work we've used HPS (yuk), Metal Halide, High Output fluorescents including T5 and recently a few different LED fixtures. Right now one of the favorites is an LED about 12" round. It lights a pretty good area.

I've been "down this road" a few times. For an arena, dust and birds are the nemesis. Also cold weather. Then you have to go climb a ladder to change out the fragile flickering tubes. AND, your riders will not be pleased because it's too dark to show riding faults. The new LED lights are not diffused enough. Look at one and you go blind.

For an auto shop, you want BRIGHTNESS with minimal glare. AND, no point light sources. So, I replaced my 8 8' flourescents in the shop with 3 of these. Bright as day, no glare, use when needed, birds don't seen to like them. They are 20' up. Look around on Craigslist or Habitat stores for industrial donations and overstock. Mine were $35 apiece. 120v single phase. 20 second warm up. I gave up on the arena. It's a great equipment storage building now. high bay lights.jpg

These are for sale on CL right now for $35. Brand new.

I installed these LED highbays in my 40x60x14 shop-5 rows of 3. Great lighting.

I have two of these,, in a bay of my shop that is about 30x40 feet,, the area is lit up like daytime.

Mine are 16 feet high, I did change the reflectors from "high bay" to "low bay reflectors" , that helped even the light out.

The main thing I like about the lights is that only two lights needed to be installed, less wiring, way less installation.

AND, the actual power consumption is WAY less than 2X of what the equivalent LEDs consume.
I could never recover the cost of changing over to LED lighting, based on electricity consumption.
(I only use the lights a few hours per day)

mine have been up over 15 years,, both are still perfect.
They say after so many hours, the light output reduces, I can not notice a difference after 15 years,,

Just for grins, I added an LED light,, actual 100 watt power consumption, it is a BIG light.
The LED did nothing to aid the two metal halide fixtures,, the light from the metal halide fixtures is overwhelming,,

I mounted one of the metal halide fixtures over my welding table, at 8 feet high,,
the light is so bright, that if you turn your head, the light will "trigger" my auto-darken welding helmet,,
I have to turn the light off when welding so the auto-darken helmet will function correctly.

Before I retired we were switching over from Metal Halide to LED flying saucer/spaceship looking lights. These lights in most areas burn 24/7 and we did it more to reduce maintenance of changing bulbs. Sadly some of the industrial brand LED's didn't fare much better. It was a power plant so energy savings was not much concern. The big problem with Metal Halide was quality of the bulbs. Our HQ would go low bidder or change suppliers and we would end up throwing new bulbs away because they were duds.

ive seen lots of LED fixtures not last more than a few years. and sometimes is the name brand fixtures that fail. my problem is the manufacturers gave us free replacement fixtures if they fail within the 2 year warranty...but i had to rent the man lift to get it replaced..and eat the man hours of labor. it got to be where i stopped installing them in the last few years i ran my business.

Is there any active member? I need the information but none of the forum respond me, searching for lighting option is to difficult in this case for me as I'm not very much aware of this. Kindly help me if any one know

Welcome to the forum!
Actually, there are many active members, however, while this thread is about lighting and your question is also about lighting, it would be better to start your own thread so you get answers more focused on your situation. I do believe that many of the posts in this thread apply to your situation though.
