High Bay Fluorescent for Arena

We just went through this with the new barn, we had originally planned to use exterior floodlights for the inside of the barn, but they didn't meet the electrical code here.

We ended up using 2-bulb T8 4 foot sealed fixtures with a clear lens and polished reflectors. Hinged cover, electronic ballast, etc. Very nice light, they were about $65 Cdn as I recall.

Check your local code and see what you're allowed to use if you haven't already.. if you're concerned about it, that is.

Should give you about 20 footcandles (about as bright as your kitchen probably is). That should be fine for your use. They will put out lots less when they get dirty.

I just ordered the sealed and gasketed six tube four foot fixture from Orion Lighting. T8 ballast. Will light down to -20F. Now just to put them up.

Now I need to figure out placement. I have 40'x40x area to light.
Only go 4 for now and think this should be ok for 40'x20'

What color temp. lamps did you order with them ?? It will make a big difference on the light output,,

I'll take a couple pics of mine later today, odds are they're very similar, except mine have 2 bulbs, not 6.

I am not sure where you are located, but those are advertised to light down to zero. GE makes a ballast that will go down to -20. I looked at the HD ones, but was also concerned about keeping them cleaned. I will clean the ones I ordered from the ground (with a hose). Granted, they cost a fair share more though... Let me know how it works out.

I'm located in centeral Indiana.. We dont get much zero degree weather here lately, and once the barn is finished it will be heated to at least 65 in the winter.
I realize they dont have any sheild of cover and hope that I can find something I can purchase later to provide some protection.

Glad you resolved the lighting issue. You'll be happy.
