Hi, I have just obtained a late 60's Ford 2000 3 ylinder diesel tractor. It came with a loader and a scraper blade. I runs beautifully and I can't wait to start driving it... I won't be able to pick it up for about a week. I own lots of boats (particularly with antique outboards), motorcycles, chainsaws and pretty well anything with a sparkplug but this is my first full size tractor. I'm pretty stoked! I hope that any problems I have (like how to actually drive a tractor... all those extra levers and pedals) can be solved here. All the very best! Horst

Welcome. Take it slow and watch the loader bucket. It can easily scrape another vehicle. Don't ask me how I know.

I have a sinking feeling that I will soon be a member of the 'loader bucket accident club'. I am a very mechanically inclined person, I can work on anything and I've never been afraid to get dirty... but I've never actually driven a tractor before. I've spent a good deal of my life in the country... more woods and lakes stuff so I'm a bit intimidated by all the levers, knobs and gizmo's... I will likely be around this site looking for some expert advice from you all. Thanks kindly for the warm welcome. I'll be posting pics once I get it home. Thanks again!! Horst

I did find an operators manual online which I read and it certainly was worthwhile. I think I could actually jump on and probably get rolling. There are some fine details which I couldn't figure out... the throttle lever beside the steering wheel... is faster up or down. The manual said to open the throtttle 1/2 way to start and then turn the key to allow the warmers to heat up and then to crank it. How long do you wait for the warmers? Is there a light that goes on or off (like on a diesel car) when it's ready to start? The manual says to select a gear and go... can you change from low to high range while rolling... what about changing gears on the fly? I also have no idea what any of the sector arm stuff and 3 point hitch stuff means! I promise you I'm not a complete idiot... just never had the chance to drive one before. (But I'm so excited... like a 3 year old at Christmas!!!) Thanks again to all who have extended the warm (cyber)hand of greeting) All the best! Horst

It'll be best to wait for a Ford owner to answer your questions. I only drove one once and don't want to tell you wrong.

I can't help wonder if a manual by a different author might answer your questions. When I can afford it, I sometimes buy car repair manuals from two and even three different publishers. Having just one important question answered so I can understand it, offsets the cost.
