Joined the forum a while ago, and really enjoy reading through the posts. Misplaced my login details so never actually posted anything. Thought it was time I corrected that.

Got fed up with the rat race in cities, so a few years ago, wife and I bought a few acres of land in Scotland and built our dream home on it. We're off grid for everything except telephone line, and aim to be as self sufficient as possible.

Convinced myself I needed a small tractor :), and have been playing ever since.

Pretty small scale compared to most of you guys, but we love the lifestyle / seclusion. Anyway, I know how I like seeing pictures of others setup, so here's a couple from the UK.

Howdy from Texas.

Really nice place there. I would venture to guess you are either an engineer or self taught individual looking at the overall fine set up you have there. How tall is your tower? How big diameter are your blades?

I don't have the wind at my place to support a wind generator, but about 130 miles south of here, on the Gulf of Mexico coast, they do.

Thanks all for the welcome.

Good guess Kyle. I trained as a draughtsman / design engineer. Spent many years doing that and travelling around for work. Regularly in Illinois for a few weeks each year. Also Far East a lot. Unfortunately didn't get to see other parts of USA.

Solar panels work well for us in summer. Turbine is only tiny - 6ft dia. on 32ft tower. Rated at 2 kW, but it needs a stiff breeze to contribute much. The government pays us for electricity we generate for our own use, and this covers the cost of diesel for our backup generator, so effectively, all our power is 'free'.
