Twenty years ago in rural Detroit, Maine (pop 350?) there was a small coutry garage--right next to the fertilizer plant-- that had a sign on the roof with advertised specials. The owner was gone for a few days and kids got the letters or rearranged the words to read "Topless dancers at 7 PM."

You can imagine the horror but since the owner was gone no one dared to go onto the roof to interfere and change the words. The owner was a quiet and unassuming guy that didn't say 20 words a days so it was a great laugh. Wish I had a cell phone back then.

I first went to a "Target" store on 3/31/2004. I was very pleased when I saw their express lane sign:

Then, I went back about two years later, and this is what I saw.

Trying to explain to someone why it's "fewer" instead of "less" is just a futile exercise.

There has been a sign up around the neighborhood for over a week now...

"Lost brown and white Bassatt Hound" Gonna be a tough one to find there!
