(B2620, had BX22) Simplicity Legacy w/48" mmm
I am in the process of replacing a Kubota BX22. Though I like orange tractors a lot, Green ones do have some advantages in the mowing, and ground engaging (position control) areas....... and other areas I'm sure. I only have 13 acres, and only finish mow something over three. There are lots of obstacles to mow around, and there is a possibility that I would keep my Simplicity for some duties, but I would really like to have one tractor that did a nice job on everything........ Yah, I've had better dreams too. Material collection is important too, both for leaves, and occasional use on grass. One of the reasons that I'm looking at green is the MCS seems easier ( though not as easy as it could be) to install, and remove than the Kubota unit. I'm looking at both the 2305, and 2320. I do want to run a small chipper, and like the looks of the Wallenstein BX42, so that is a consideration. I have no need to run a rotary cutter any larger than 48", and 42" would be fine on my trails. In the past few years I have spent most of my tractor hours finish mowing, removing rocks ( much easier to mow now) dealing with brush /branches, and removing snow. There are small areas here, and there that I would like to smooth, and reseed, and there are lots of potential opportunities to play in my woods...... though I have time, and don't mind fixing up my logging roads as I go. It looks like the 2320 is the better overall unit for my needs, but I'm concerned about it's suitibility for mowing around all my rocks, and trees, and I'm not crazy about the front mounted implements being narrower than the tractor...... (Hope JD adresses that!) A backhoe is a future possibility, but I am very aware of the use, and limitations of the smaller hoes so don't see an issue with either tractor in that reguard.
Any input, and general ideas on the subject would be appreciated. I would like to be using this thing soon!

(Chris, do you think I should get a 2520??? :)

Chuck I feel your pain:confused:  After you told me you had looked at the JD I felt compelled to do the same(monkey see monkey do) I really like the 2305 and the 2320. For what I have about 3 acres the 2320 is over kill for me. I am concerned about the low hanging hydro but some plate and the mig we will have a skid plate in a few hours to protect the whole hydo unit.

I went back up this am and took another look and 2305 it is for me same hp same loader I guess the pump is smaller. It would be the smaller hoe though but the smaller one will do the same just a little longer.
Now to find a good JD dealer up in your neck of the woods that wants to deal:D The prices I got yesterday are almost list down here so I guess the JD dealers are no different than kubota.

One question I have is the 2320 deck a ground engaging deck like the kubota B series. I think the 2305 is a susended deck like a BX

What are your other choices? My 2320 does great with a 48" brush hog. Unless your moving up to 60", I don't think you would gain much from the 2520 in that regard. I've got a bazillion trees to mow around as well, and the 2320 does pretty well (as well as any tractor it's size) but I too have a Simplcity that I use from time to time as it is easier to mow around the trees with it's MMM. I do not have a finish mower for the 2320, but from what I hear the 62D has a really good cut and would defiantely make it easier mowing around trees. I looked at the B7510 and really think the 2320 is a better machine. The Kubota is nice but is a dated design that needs updating. It also lacks several features like position control. Now the Kubota B2630 is a nice machine. But for running 4 foot implements like you are talking about, I think the 2320 would be better as it is a little smaller all around. The 2520 will do everything the 2320 will, but you may not benefit from it with your applications. I know it wouldn't benefit me with my applications. In any event, I think getting a machine with Position control would be money well spent. That elimates the 2305, and smaller B series Kubota's.

I've looked at the Wallenstein chippers. They are very nice. If I remember correctly the model you are looking at will run fine with a machine the size of the 2320. It's the smallest they make I beleive. The next size up you would need a 3000 series Deere or Kubota L.

Assanders, I have been following your posts with interest, and value your input. I think your experience is more than likely understated. Thanks for adding to this thread...
There are people running the Wallenstein BX42 (4"x6" capacity) on BX's, and Kioti Ck20's, so that makes me believe that it would run fine on a 2320 like yours.

Chris,
I've been following, and enjoying your posts too. I think you would have a blast with your machine on my land, and we could even introduce you to real snow problems..... maybe (we've had some easy winters too) You've shown us what the 2520 can do, and it looks like you are having a good time doing it! I knew you were pretty sold on your machine, so I just had to throw that in! :) Thanks for adding to the advice I'm getting here.....

I can't really speak to how a 2320 mows; don't have any kind of mower for it yet, maybe a rough cut mower next year. The tractor is solid though and has done everything I've wanted it to. The bucket is strong and actually pretty quick. I'm inexperienced enough that I probably would not want it any quicker.

I also use the position control a lot. Makes grading the driveway a cinch. Originally I was concerned about the clearance between the ground and the hydraulic filters but even on my rough land it has not been any problem.

The tractor has a tremendous amount of grunt for its size and is pretty easy on diesel when working hard.

As you can probably tell:D I'm pretty happy with my machine. Hope you find something, green, orange, blue, red, or whatever color that fits you as well as my 2320 fits me.

I would go 2320 for one reason: the full Cat one hitch. Going to a 2520 is an option, but for mowing, I do not think there would be too much difference there. The extra couple HP and slightly more torque would help some with rough cutting, but I did a fair amount of brushcutting with my 595 and it has the 24 hp diesel also. They have a lot of power and would do fine. I would not go with a 2305, as that is quite close to your BX.

FIRST TIME ON THIS FORUM (GREAT INFO HERE). I OWN A 2320 AND WILL BE PICKING UP LANDSCAPE RAKE AND 54D FOR IT TODAY SO I WILL POST PICS TOMMORRO OR FOLLOWING DAY, DEPENDING ON WHEN I MOUNT THE MOWER. SINCE I WILL NOT BE TRAILERING THE 2320 TO THE DEALER I WILL BE INSTALLING THE MOWER (HYDRO LIFT) MY SELF. HOWEVER I WILL PLAY WITH RAKE TONIGHT:)
IN COUPLE OF DAYS I WILL BE ABLE TO GIVE MY TAKE ON A 2320 MOWING DECK!!!

GOOD LUCK WITH WHATEVER YOUR CHOICE IS!!!!
