72 hours after it started, the rain seems to be done. Right now, my digital rain gauge has reset itself, so I don't know what it has in it. My big rain gauge is full and overflowing at 5 inches. My small rain gauge is at 6 inches exactly!!!!!

Three days, six inches for a nice two inch a day average. Not bad.

The forecast is for a high of 50 today, mid fifty's tomorrow and then into the 70's during the week.

Yep, it appears that the rain may be over, and I figure I got a grand total of approximately 3.12" in the four days. Lake Lewisville was 4.6' low and now shows to be an even 4' low, so it came up .6 of a foot.

Bird,

I think it will be quite a few more days of runoff until you know how much water the lakes get. The creek along my property line is up to the edge of it's banks and flowing strong. It's gonna keep dumping water into the Sabine for a week easy, and then continue indefinitely after that from the springs in the ground.

What I find interesting is how long my lake will continue to overflow. The water is up higher then the spillway, but it flows out slowly. I just think that's so cool!!!!!

I'm going to mark the shoreline with some stakes for my dock project later in the year. I was thinking of getting out my laser level and doing it that way, but this is faster and easier.

Well our rains started last night and scheduled to end sometime Monday.

Funny thing Eddie before you started this thread I was checking the weather radar out and always go towards the gulf to see what is headed our way. I check the radar out around Dallas, I think it was Thursday, and a large storm was over top of Dallas. I saw Tyler on the map and said to mysely "looks lke Eddie's lake will get filled up". Thought of all you Texas boys, Bird, Jim, Rob, etc.

Since being on TBN it seems you remember where people live or the general area. Anything happening on the news or wheather makes me think about that person I met on TBN;):)

All that Texas rain has now moved thru the bayou state and we needed it badly also. We got around 2.5" here in the Kinder area and it looks like it is done now. The garden will definitely appreciate it:)

Yeah, John. We haven't gotten a drought-breaker yet, but with 4" plus and still sprinkling things are sure looking up. I think the grass is going to green up after all. Thanks.

We had a at least two inches of rain over three or four days a couple of weeks back. A nice soaking rain. When I checked the rain gauge it was to the top which is about two inches so I don't know how much we really received.

Since Friday/Saturday we have had more slow steady rain. The rain would pause for a bit and the start up again. Its supposed to be gone today. The rain gauge was full when I checked it yesterday so we have had at least four inches of rain this month.

Later,
Dan

Last night on the news, the official rain amount for last week was 5.43 inches in Tyler. I'm ten miles North of Tyler, so what they received is on par with what I had in my rain gauges. One of the things that I enjoy for no particular reason is seeing how much rain falls on my place, then comparing it to the surrounding area. It doesn't mean anything, but it's just interesting.

That and the temperature variations. The Denton Municipal Airport is an even 10.0 miles from my house by road; probably 8 to 9 miles "as the crow flies" and there's usually a pretty good variation in the amount of rain they get compared to what I get. Sometimes the "official" temperature there is the same as my thermometer shows and other times there may be a difference of 5 or more degrees.

My weather differs from the town about 12 miles away, but I just mark it down to them not having a window and I do.

Eddie, we got 4-3/4" at the house. Needed it bad. It got everything damp enough that I could start burning yesterday. I haven't been able to do that for a long time because of the dry conditions .... and the wind. Man. it's been blowing this year.

Every thing is still drying out around here. They lifted the burn ban but now every thing is too wet to burn. It may be dry enough to mow by the weekend. I did find another tree down on the fence. It was one of the neighbors that had been caught up since Hurricane Ike.

You would think that was the case around here too, but as a volunteer firefighter I had to respond to two different out of control brush fires just today.

The rain is done for the day. We were expecting 1 to 2 inches and severe thunderstorms. The thunder was fairly mild, and only for a very short period of time. My digital rain gauge shows 1.34 inches.

The forecast is for more rain later in the week. I was hoping to push some dirt with the dozer this weekend, but it's not gonna happen if it rains again.

.03" yesterday, which I was glad to get, but a bit disappointed that it wasn't more, but now a 30-40% chance in the forecast for the next couple of days. And while my thermometer and the official temperature at the airport, less than 10 miles NW of me, are usually pretty close, this morning mine shows 54 while theirs shows 44. A ten degree difference is a bit unusual.

The only water we got this week is the run off from up north. The Trinity river is running high and will for a while. Still watering the garden about every other day until the rains come again.

It looks like the second wave of storms is through for today. It really hit about 5pm and in ten minutes, we received almost half an inch of rain. Since then, it was off and on with a bit of thunder and a few flashes of lightning. Nothing very interesting after that initial downpour. Todays total on my digital rain gauge is .87 of an inch.

The radar shows the brunt of the storm is South and East of us. They are really getting some weather!!!!

Eddie, this time we had some thunder and lightning, but the heavy stuff missed us again. We just had a nice gentle rain from about 1 p.m. until after 4 p.m. for a total of about .56" this time. You can almost watch the grass grow and it sure needs mowing now.:D

We got the heavy stuff about 10 pm last night. Got a good soaking. No need to water the garden for a few days. Still overcast today with a high chance of more rain.

Got a lot of rain today, really needed it. But they are talking lots of tornadoes around tomorrow, hope not here.

The last hurricane, one came through here treetop high. I and the neighbors heard it about 7AM. It dropped a tree on the next door neighbors house, sliced it in two, then got the tops of some of my trees, I lost about 4. Really tore up the electric lines, took a Canadian crew days to rebuild from our house for about a 1/4 mile and dropped a tree through the house across the road. Didn't get our house, the mobile, or the outbuildings. We were sure lucky. I hope tomorrow is not some kind of repeat.
