Most of Texas has been very dry, but in my area, we've just started to feel it. I'm in East Texas, so we get more rain than the rest of the state, but we're at 2 inches for the year, when 8 inches is normal for us.

For the last week or so, rain has been in the forecast, but nothing has happened. Today it hit us!!!! From 9am to 11 am, I have received just over two inches of rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The forecast is for rain every day until Tuesday of next week. Last night, the forecast was that we could receive five inches by the weekend.

This might turn into a very bad situation.

Don't use it all up we could use some of that rain down here in south east Texas. I don't know how far we are behind but had to start hauling water to the church garden just to get everything to even come up.

I got .78" in January, 1.3" in February, and .53" so far today, but there's supposed to be more on the way, so I'm hopeful. Lake Lewisville is down nearly 5' and I'm hoping it fills up soon.

I'm VERY happy to see the rain. My pond is starting to fill back up finally. It has been about 4-5' low for the last couple months. I have to admit it did allow us to get some work done on the pond that we would not have been able to do otherwise. COME ON RAIN!

I've been known to work if it's raining outside and I'm on an inside job, but the stuff I have to do this week is all outside work. Since I can't replace the bad wood, seal it and paint in in weather like this, I'm going to spend the day inside where it's nice and warm.

I did walk outside today. I did it three times!!! and that's it, I'm not going out there again. Too cold at 42 degrees!!!!!

We got up to about 0 today, I blew out the farm but it was in a heated cab.

I cheated also, I'll plug in the tractor the night before but I go out in the morning and plug in a fan heater in the cab for a couple hours before I start the tractor. It did pretty good this morning the cab was 48 degrees when I started the tractor up.

Last year, I got over 9" of rain in March, but so far this year, less than one inch. But we're getting a nice slow easy shower now and the radar shows it might be here awhile.:) And our high temperature today got up to 41!

In what part of the Dallas area does your friend live? In the Spring of 1966, I was working an evening shift in north Dallas and had a brand new Chevrolet police sedan. I got off work at 11 p.m. and the two officers who relieved my partner and me drove right out Marsh Lane and got washed off a 6 lane divided roadway into a creek. The car was submerged and they were both lucky to get out with their lives.

Hey Bird,

Did you see the footage of Six Flags a few years ago when it flooded? From the video on the news, it looked like a rushing river going through the park!!!! Having been there, I just can't imagine what that must have been like in person.

Here, we're sort of used to allot of rain in fairly short time frames, but still get some damage. Mostly it's from a culvert that fails or gets washed away, which includes the road over it. Some ponds might fail and there will be allot of trees that fall over. Considering the amount of rain that comes down, it's impressive that there isn't more damage.

7 1/2 hours into this storm and I have 2.74 inches of rain on my Oregon rain gauge.

Eddie.... local Jarrell rain gauge says 1 inch so far... I believe less at my place... send some our way.... unless it all came on one day, we can take 10 inches and still not fill all the ground cracks and empty tanks. I'm going to be pleased if my place actually gets 2.5 inches this storm.

Yeah, Eddie, I don't remember what year that was, but I saw the news footages. I was very surprised that it flooded like that. I visited Six Flags over Texas quite a number of times during it's first 60 years. The last time I took the kids was October, 1980. The State Fair was going on and I told our girls one weekend we could either go to the Fair or to Six Flags and I'd leave the choice up to them. Now I knew there would be big crowds at the Fair and I really didn't want to get into those crowds, I'd been to the Fair every year for many years, and I knew the kids would choose Six Flags for the rides. I thought I was being real smart, figured the crowds would be at the Fair and Six Flags wouldn't have a lot of business. Another one of those times when I misfigured. That day turned out to be a real scorcher; terribly hot and miserable with long lines at all the rides. I vowed to never again go to Six Flags.:D I did go again in December, 1989, when they had their annual "Holiday in the Park" Christmas activities.

And for this round of rain, you're a couple of inches ahead of me. We still haven't gotten a total of 3/4" yet. We had a light shower from around 6:30 a.m. to nearly 10 a.m., then a break until this afternoo. The sun even came out awhile. The radar has consistently shown the heavier rain going south of us, but we're now getting the ideal kind of rain to water the yard; slow and steady, and if it keeps on long enough I'd be happy to see 3 inches or so.

I should have known you could find the dates on the Internet. Six Flags had some flooding on June 29, 2004, but I think the worst was March 19, 2006.

1.5" at my place when I left for work at 13:30. No standing water anywhere, the ground is just soaking it up pretty good.
I hope I get 10" it might fill up my back pond but I doubt it.

Rain!?? Where? Not here, still bone dry.

The Ohio River Valley always floods the local area. During my wife's 5 year search for a farm I gave her my command guidance: paved road and above the floodplain. She came through on both.

I love exploring the farm in the rain and the worst it does for me is some mud on heavily trod areas. The springs and streams seem to be old and they have cut their paths throughout the years and I own all the high ground.

Had one hillside slip but it wasn't bad, likely the result of a couple hundred years of cows and a small bit of erosion.

I feel badly for your flood situation, it is allot of work. The community here does not riot when natural disaster strikes, they pitch in, patch up and clean up.

Hey Eddie, when I'm finished with my boat I'll send it to ya :D We've had between 3-6" of rain over the last few days. Forecast is dry and colder with lots of wind for the next week so hopefully we'll dry out a bit. Glad to hear your gitting some rain although I wish it was over a longer time frame or less amounts in a shorter time.

When I checked my gauge yesterday we had received 1.4 inches. We are about 25 miles to your NW. It rained all last night and is raining now. Can't wait to check the gauge again. It put about 12 inches into my top tank. Haven't been down to the bottom tank to check yet. That is the one with my catfish. Sure has been a long dry spell.

Let 'er rain!

We're still getting very very light sprinkles, and officially at the Denton Airport, the total from yesterday until 6 a.m. today was 1.36". I figure I got about .53" yesterday morning, then from early yesterday afternoon until now, I think my gauge has about 1.7" in it, so I'm getting close to a 2.25" total. The Dallas Morning News says the DFW Airport got over 2" yesterday morning. And it appears to finally be starting for txdon.;)
