My initial goal was to get a pic of him standing so his shaved legs could be seen.

His feet are NOT shaved. So from the "top of his socks" to his thigh is shaved and it frankly looks like he's wearing fur boots on his feet. I was going to put his "tattoo" on there but he was pretty tired yesterday and didn't do much other than lay around.

I think you all get the drift of his opinion of parvo though with the first two tattooed shots.

These were taken 12/15 hours ago.

Glad to hear that he is home. Please remember that he is still a puppy and that if you start to spoil him with table scraps now, you will have a hard time getting him to eat dog food later on. It is best that his diet be consistent and healthy. As much as you might want to believe that as long as he is eating something, that it is better than nothing being eaten, you are wrong. It is best that he eat the proper meal as prescribed by the veterinarian so he get the proper nourishment and his intestines continue to heal. I know because I was tempted once to do the same thing. A constant change of food type causes diarrhea in puppies, and that is not good. Given the right encouragement he will eat his puppy food and grow without problems. Keep those pictures comming....

Thank you all... and Junkman... your post was very timely as I had the wife on phone as I was reading it, so I read it to her.

Guess who was on the floor, whimpering about wanting a doughnut? Seems even though he's never had a cream filled doughnut and never SEEN one, he knows he wants whatever is in that box on the countertop.

The wife was asking if she should..and I read your post to her. I think your logic makes emminent sense.

Back to his rice/cottage cheese with a bit of chicken pot pie pieces tossed in for more flavor.

Maybe we'll graduate him to a handful of puppy chow over the weekend.

Yesterday, he was still very tired, so he was quiet as a mouse when we got him home. The wife had him laying on her chest on the couch. She started to giggle... she said "I'm sure glad I'm cuddling with him "now" while he's ill and staying so calm...because when he's better and full of energy and not so interested in behaving like a good dog is when YOU get to have him"

I would not recommend that you use Puppy Chow, but rather see him eat something like Eukanuba for Puppies, or Science Diet Puppy. The Purina Puppy Chow is sprayed with animal fat and a lot of the calories in the product are a result of that fat. There are other good foods out there such as Wellness, Back to Basics, Neutro, Canadia, etc. that will be much better in the long run. I have raised my last litter of Mini Dachshunds on Canadia and just soak it in warm water till they started to get teeth. My last pup has been crunching it dry since she was 8 weeks old.
I equate dog food quality to "would you want to eat 2 pounds of chuck steak or a 1/2 pound sirloin fillet? They both have the same calories and both will leave you filled, but one will taste better and the slight extra cost will be worth the difference.

I've been following Otis' trials and tribulations during this whole thing (and you and your wifes too). First off.....I'm glad he's home, he looks like such a sweet pup. I have shared your daily updates and the pictures with my wife every afternoon and every night. She always asks if there was any news on Otis /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
She felt you may have been a bit graphic when you took Otis out .......but...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
His insides will heal shortly and he'll be back to normal soon. If he's able to "control" it until he goes outside, thats a good thing.

Just glad to see he is home where people can pay attention to him and show him love.

He looks like what my dog would have at his age. We rescued him from a shelter at 5 months old, the day before he went to sleep for good. He has been the best "buddy" I could have ever asked for. Hence his name, Buddy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As far as "too many details" on his projectiles, rather than trying to sound dramatic, I was simply trying to be as accurate as I could be. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif (for the record, he's shooting similar today, however, it's calming down... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

I'm not an avid poster here. My strengths (if I have any) are not in tractor areas, such that I can offer much insite to anyone.

That said, I've been 'hangin round' here since the Kubota.com days. I don't know how long that has been, but I would dare say 1997'ish.. maybe '98?

It to this day, continues to amaze me how amazing this website is and the raw quality of the people that tend to congregate here.

My wife thinks I'm nuts at times, because I'll tell her a story about "my tractor buddies" (being said by one that doesn't technically OWN his own tractor, but mooches off his Uncle in laws /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Otis would not have been an issue, nor alive today (I belive) had it not been for the death of Wiggles and Daisy.

Just today, I tried to clarify to the wife...

1. What if you'd waited 2 days to go to shelter? (he'd become symptomatic & been destroyed)
2. What if you had not taken the week off? (we'd not noticed him getting sick as quickly)
3. What if you had not had your dream where you got a dog and named him Otis? (the main reason she was compelled to go to shelter)
4. What if you'd waited a couple days to take Otis back to vet? (after all, he'd gotten his shots JUST the day prior)

Change a number of events... or even just one of them and today, Otis is but a memory. he really DOES owe his life to her. I've told her probably 5 times that I'm sooo proud of her that she listened to her own gut instinct, and not my thick headed diatribe.

I'll second Junkman's opinions on dog food. My wife is VERY
particular on dog food. Most of it out there is not real good. I
can get her to list here diatribes on what dogs should be eating
vs what they should avoid. Our last dog that passed on after
two bad cancers. The last cancer that finally caught Chase
was so bad that when the vet operated on the dog to see what
was happening inside, he stopped the procedure and came
out to ask if my wife just wanted to put the dog to sleep.

Well my wife kept that dog going for a good 6-9 months and
the vets said Chase would only last a couple of weeks. Chase
stayed around because of love, loyalty and good food. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
My wife found a dog cancer group on the Internet and they
really helped out. Both the dog and the wife.

So get that Otis some good food. That dog has a charmed
life! He is cute as all get out and I am NOT letting my wife
see his picture! Otherwise I know what happens at my house!

built and move to the property!

I don't know if this will work or not but ask you vet if the Otis
can eat coconut macroons. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I know that sounds
wierd but I listen to the Peoples Pharmacy on NPR when I get
a chance and there are many people who report that eating
cocnut macroons have stopped there diareha. If the vet says
coconut is ok give it a try and see if it stops that Ol' Otis up!
/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I would ask the vet to make sure that coconut is not
like chocolate which is bad for dogs....

On going to different vets. We know and use two to four vets
for our dog(s). When our oldest dog got sick or hurt she would
see as many as three different vets as needed. When Chase
was sick she was going to at least two vets for treatment and
I think a third came to the house to put her to sleep. Never
have we had a problem with the vets over this. Its been the
opposite where they have worked to get the best possible care
for the dog. The vets had no ego in this at all. It was all about
the dogs.

I swear my dogs get better care than we do. My kids get good
care but to be honest, we have had better luck with the vets

the oldest was born we had three dogs. Now we are down to
one but the oldest bosses around the GSD just like me. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Which is pretty funny when the dog out wieighs her by a factor

Since she has been around the dogs all her life she like to
play dog all of the time. SOOOOOO, almost every night the
Scooby Do dog suit gets put on and Number 1 Kid then puts on
a leash...... And then goes crawling aka dog walking and
barking around the house!

Many years ago, I had a small red spot on a finger that just wouldn't go away. I knew it was the result of a dog bite about 3 months before. It didn't hurt, and it was just there, so I didn't pay much attention to it. One day when I was at the vet with one of the dogs, I mentioned it to him. He looked at it and said "lets take a picture of it and see what is going on underneath". When he came out of the darkroom from developing the x-ray, he calmly said that I needed to see a medical doctor ASAP. I had contracted a bone disease known as osteomyelitis. I spent the next 3 months in the hospital in a private room, because not only was the infection a bone problem, but it was also considered infectious to others. The surgery to clean up the infection took about 3 hours under general anesthesia and the rest of the treatment was to be on IV antibiotics every 4 hours for 12 weeks. That is one time I was glad that I had health insurance. The total bill came up to $230,000 and that was in 1980!!!!! All that from a dog bite that I didn't think was much more than a small puncture wound....
PS..... the doctor wasn't pleased that I came in with an x-ray taken by a veterinarian and I never told who the veterinarian was. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
