Massey 1210
Help Please,

I have a Massey 1210 tractor with a 48" loader. I have had this idea in my head to use modify a 48" snowblower from a garden tractor, mount it to my loader arms and power it from an auxilary hydraulic pump and motor driven by my front pto. I have been reading several post here of some similar projects and before I go buy what I think would be the correct Pump,Tank,Motor equiptment, I was hoping a hydraulic expert could help me with the feasability and sizing.

The specs of my tractor can be read at: TractorData.com Massey Ferguson 1210 tractor information

Several Particular Questions:
1. Pump Size given tractor ratings?
2. Motor Size given suggested pump size?
3. Do I need a relief valve?
4. Do I need a control valve or simply the PTO on/off engage of tractor
5. Can I supply the fluid from taking of the tractor hydraulics?

Before I just go buy a bunch of stuff, I would be great to hear what your suggestions are before I spend some money!

Thanks for your help.

Your tractor only have 5.2 GPM's flow, and only 18 HP.

What is the rpm of the blower?

With your HP, even driving a PTO pump, like this one, which takes about 11.9 HP, the HP out to the hyd motor will be about 10 HP.

How much HP does it take to run the snow blower now?

Hyd valve usually have a relief valve on them.

I have no idea. it was originally a shaft drive from a front to on a yard. and garden unit.
it is geared with a sproket and chain with a gears that is 3" off the drive shaft to about 14
on the auger shaft. spins very easy by turn of my thumb and finger.

if a hydraulic motor can be turned at 2000 rpm the one I was reading about
can generate nearly 10hp of power. I am certainly lost and looking for your guidance.

Your tractor takes about 9 HP to produce the 5.2 at 2500 psi. If you send that to a hyd motor, the best you can develop out of the hyd motor would be about 7.65 HP.

If you needed 2000 rpm from the hyd motor, and 5.2 GPM's, the displacement on the hyd motor would need to be about .6 cu in.

The torque on the motor would be about 667 in lbs, or 55.58 ft lbs.

If you need 10 HP, at the motor, the pump will have to develop about 11.8 HP

#5. That's what I did when I installed my rear PTO pump. I couldn't see plumbing a stand alone reservoir and filter setup on the limited real estate back there when there was a perfectly serviceable 5.5 gallon hydraulic reservoir complete with strainer and filter just inches away.

Although mine is on a JD 870, if you'd like I'll post some pics that might give you some ideas.

If you are running two pumps from a reservoir designed for one pump, you might keep an eye on the temp of the hyd fluid if both pumps are running at the same time. 180 to 200 degrees .

My PTO pump is more or less dedicated for the log splitter through QDs (until I can figure out something else to power from it) so while I'm splitting, the onboard tractor hydraulic system is merrily filtering the fluid with no back pressure and therefore hopefully not adding heat.

Your point is correct, though. Flogging the tractor pump via the loader while doing other work with the PTO pump might overtemp things. Don't know what the OP will be using along with his snow thrower.
