leonz
I have a Carrier reefer unit and it has a 12v lift pump about 18" from the injector pump.
Jim

I guess I am a bit outdated:eek: the Carrier units I am familiar with did not have them=early 1970's.

leonz, ALL BX's have an electric fuel pump. It is a 12v unit that is shaped similar to the fuel filters and is activated anytime the key is turned on. With the key on, the electric fuel pump is easily heard. They usually sound like a very fast clicking sound.

If one was to look under a BX, if you locate the fuel line that exits the tank by the left rear wheel you can then follow the rubber fuel line along the frame to about mid way point along the tractor to where the 1st fuel filter is installed. Approx 5" of fuel line further you'll locate the electric fuel pump. Follow the line on up into the engine compartment and you'll locate the 2nd fuel filter and an approx 5" more of line you'll find it terminate into the fuel injection pump.
Basically theres a filter before and after the electric fuel pump.

As some have pointed out, if you don't hear the pump clicking when you turn the key on it probably isn't working. A blown 15 amp fuse, loose electrical connection, broken wires near the pump, defective pump is the order I'd check it. A multimeter is always recommended when troubleshooting electrics.
Keep in mind that a clogged 1st filter will starve an engine for fuel as will a partially clogged fuel tank.
Theres been a few posters that have reported that their BX's would run but would stall under a load and it ended up one had a defective fuel pump and the other had a broken wire to it.
Seems theres been some reports of mice chewing these wires as well as one dog :D
Good luck
Dave

I would guess your fuel pump is shot. I would unplug the fuel pump wiring harness and use a VOM to see that you have 12 volts with the switch on. If you do, check the fuel pump for continuity. I don't know what the resistance should be but it will be a low number. If its open (OL) the pump is dead. My BX22 ran with a blown fuse. I didn't have the engine loaded and I didn't run it for long that way. I had had the tractor to the dealer to have a fuel leak fixed, and when they put it back together they pinched a taillight wire. When I turned the headlights on it blew the fuse. Tractor stayed running and I didn't know the fuel pump wasn't working until the next time I went to start it and I didn't hear the fuel pump clicking. I don't remember if I started it then or not. I fixed the wire and replaced the fuse and the pump worked again.

That is what is rather disturbing about this whole mess,
as an electric fuel pump is not required with an
indirect injection fuel pump as it has the the
manual primer with the banjo bolts used to bleed it.

The injection pump itself creates enough of a
pressure gradient to pull the diesel fuel to the pump
and then to the fuel lines and overflow return back to tank.

I had hopes it was not the case but unfortunately
it is one more thing that can interfere with the
fuel system.

Were they thinking that the pump would eliminate
all the air in the fuel system if it was run empty?

Who knows why Leonz, they have engineers that figure this stuff out, I'm assuming there is a good reason they have the little pump on the tractor and its not window dressing.

They put them on because kubota's injection system will not draw fuel if it is below the level of the pump. Most injection systems have a built in lift pump that is internal.
It also makes bleeding air a simple task. You will notice that every Kubota diesel has had either an electric or mechanical lift: pump for well....ever.:)

what a waste of.................................

They could have ordered these engines with the crank cam lobe pumps or
the manual piston primer accessory GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(
