Hello, It seems like there are some of you here that know the JD 4300 inside and out, and I was hoping for some help. I recently acquired a "2 piece" 4300 and would like to hear the engine run. How would I bypass all the safety switches like the seat switch, pto switch etc. When I turn the key on, the dash lights up, but of course it won't crank. I am assuming that I would also need to disable the hydraulic pump on the front left side of the engine since oil will not be flowing through this. Is this the powersteering pump? Any help would be appreciated, as I would love to hear it run. Thanks

It's actually two pumps-one for the steering and one for the implements. They are gear driven directly from the engine so there is no real way to "disable" them. As far as the electrical-you'd need the service manual and schematics for that...

Agree that as deep as you are in this project (or planned to be), that the tech manual is a must. Where is the wiring harness? Unplugged from any rear end wiring?
Curious, but how much weight is on the concrete/wood block below the steering wheel? Wondering what the balance point might be.

There is a LOT of weight on that cement block. In fact, there is so much weight that you do not want to rest it on your tailgate, don't ask me how I know! There really is not much infront of the front axle except a radiator to counter balance the engine and heavy bell housing
I am looking for a Tech manual to try sort through some of the wiring. The harness is unplugged so I could "wheel" it over near the back of the tractor and plug it in, but I thought it might be easier just to bypass the safeties.

Absolutely correct. Pumps aren't cheap either!

Is this run test critical for continuing the project, or just of interest at this point for your own personal encouragement?
As far as the weight, I'd suggest a more solid pedestal to block up the engine. Maybe a cradle with wheels to be able to roll it around?
Agree, would not try running without the oil pumps circulating oil.
Try eBay to get a manual. Sometimes can get them for $50. Other times they seem to go for new dealer price.

The reason I want to start the engine and hear it run is I don't know exactly what to do yet. It needs a lot of major parts that are not easy to locate and will likely be quite expensive. I don't have a lot of money invested in it thus far, so I could justify some spendy parts. Hearing the engine purr would probably push me in this direction. If the engine had troubles of its own, I think it would push me in the direction of simply selling it for parts.
A more sturdy base is probably a good idea. I don't know if you can see in the picture, but I bolted a bar onto the bell housing so that I can grab it with the 3pt on my 855 and move it around that way.
