Hello,
I am thinking about upgrading to a new(er) machine. I have a Kubota L4850 with a 5412 backhoe, that I have owned for probably 12 years. Its a great machine - all metal, shuttle shift, fantastic 5 cyl engine, plenty of power, starts in the coldest days. The only real disappointment I have with the machine is the hydraulics.....They are sooooo sloooow.
I also own a 60hp skid steer that has about 20gpm of hydraulic flow and its so much easier to do everything with, you are not waiting for the bucket to go up, etc. And its much faster to move around, except that you have to be careful not to destroy the lawn. My favorite attachment for the skid is a hydraulic brush cutter.
So I am thinking about selling both machines and finding something that merges the two, then down the line, picking up a mini Ex to replace the backhoe, which I don't use that often. I was looking at Toolcats, because I am often taking a chainsaw or other stuff with me, but I do use the 3 pt york rake and box blade somewhat frequently. I used to run a 3 pt brush hog, but I have the quick attach hydraulic one, and a large fairway mower, so I have not used that in years.
So, in the tractor world, I would be looking for something with 50-60hp, hydraulic trans, 20+ gpm for the hydraulics, and I want a legacy machine - ya know the ones that people say "that was one of the best they made". I don't have much experience with the newer hydraulic transmissions in tractors, but I want something that moves forward and backward with incredible ease, like the skid steer or my mower.
I do not want a new machine, and I would like to find something 30K or less. But don't worry about the price, I am looking for some help on what models to be looking for (remember I want the best in class).
