Help me pick a box blade

I had a JD1050 w/turbocharger back in the 80's & 90's I had a 6'HD box blade on it and used it to grade for concrete construction almost 5 days a week and it would pull a full box of dirt, the tractor was 34HP I believe, I am sure you will regret not getting the 6' blade!!

J Bar Box Scrapes

The dragon is the heavy duty one. I bought my boss's old one, and he bought a new one. Solid and made in GA. I will look for the price list tomorrow.

The dealer has a 6' Land pride that is $650 heavy duty. I was reading my OM and it says I should have 65" maximum width on the box blade.

So now I am back to everything attachments and looking at the 66" box blade. Should I worry about the extra inch and drop down to 5'? Seems small for my tractor (L4400).

Thanks guys.

Your L4400 will handle a 6' easy. Would handle a 7' in all but the heaviest of uses.

I like my BB to be outside my tires a few inches so I can clean alongside things without hitting my tire.

What do you guys think about the hinged box blades?

I think they would work great for heavy cutting. Some of the high end blades offer a hinged rear cutter that can be pinned down or let swing.

I use my BB to retrieve gravel out of the lawn grass. I do that by extending the top link which puts all the weight of the blade on the rear cutter and allows the front cutter to skim over the grass while picking up the gravel. That'd be hard to do with a free swinging rear cutter.

Wonder how all that gravel gets in the grass anyway??? :ashamed:

I am sure the United is a fine piece of equipment.

Used it to redo my driveway and did a job in a parking lot. Not sure you can test a box blade much more than scrapping up an old gravel lot and resurfacing.

Looks smooth. Makes me eager to finally pull the trigger so I can smooth the ruts and potholes out in the driveway.

You did a very good job with that thing, it always amazes me how well they work.
