I am planning on getting a 6'.

Not sure the brand, but the dealer offers a regular duty for 450 and a heavy duty for 625.

I was also looking at the heavy duty on everything attachment for 549.

And tractor supply carries "county line" heavy duty for 579.

What do you guys think?

Don't pay any attention to the label, look at the construction and weight. The one I saw on TSC does not have the clevis style pins which I really like. I am not familiar with Everything Attachments, but I know a lot of people have had good results dealing with them and their BB looks better from what I could tell on the web page.

Their 7 foot model weighs 525 pounds and my LP BB2584 weighs 593, but the LP costs quite a bit more.

Just from what I could see on the websites, my choice would be Everything Attachments.

Thanks, when I am at the dealer tomorrow I will see what the brand is and ask about the weight.

The dealer has a 6' Land pride that is $650 heavy duty. I was reading my OM and it says I should have 65" maximum width on the box blade.

So now I am back to everything attachments and looking at the 66" box blade. Should I worry about the extra inch and drop down to 5'? Seems small for my tractor (L4400).

Thanks guys.

What is the model number on the LP, I am suspicious of it being a heavy duty for that kind of money, may be wrong.

I pull a 593 pound LP 7 foot bb with my L5030 and find it hard to believe your L4400 won't pull a six foot model.

I am no expert and hate to give too much advice on box blades and such, but I have exceeded my manual recommendations on equipment quite regularly.

I believe dex3361 and another poster have L4400's, maybe oversized, not sure, so you might check with them if they don't respond.

I found my LP Box scraper on Craigslist. It saved me some good money.

Agreed on the HD LP at only $650 - that sounds cheap. Is it new?

Good luck!!

Yeah, they are brand new. I looked pretty close at it and they were thicker steel on the sides than the others, if that helps, I want to say they were 3/8", but now that I am home that seems awfully thick... Sorry I didn't get the model number. But I will next time I go by there.

I emailed the guy at everything attachments and he agrees with yall, he said I shouldnt consider a box blade that wont cover my tires and recommended a minimum of 72" and stated that a 35 HP tractor will pull a 6' box blade no problem. I have 45hp. So now, yall think I need a 7'? LOL?

Good thinking on craigslist.

Thanks.

I agree with all - width of tires is a good size.

I'd also recommend getting the model # - check the weight.

Disclosure - I ain't no expert. :D

I've got a 66" Woods/Gill (655lbs) that I pull with an L3400, with no issues.

I can't imagine a L4400 having a problem with a 6'.

Ah, but that is always the question isn't it. I pull a 7' with my L5030 as I really wanted something wide for road work and to drag more dirt, but it comes at a cost. I have snagged a tree or two as it sticks well outside my tires. I don't know how wide your tires are set, but with mine set as wide as they will go there is considerable extension past my tires.

I like the added width, but I have rear view mirrors which often keeps me from hanging up on something and I am also use to pulling a ten foot cutter, so I am always looking behind me anyway.

Here is a picture to give you an idea if I haven't already posted it.

I had a JD1050 w/turbocharger back in the 80's & 90's I had a 6'HD box blade on it and used it to grade for concrete construction almost 5 days a week and it would pull a full box of dirt, the tractor was 34HP I believe, I am sure you will regret not getting the 6' blade!!

J Bar Box Scrapes

The dragon is the heavy duty one. I bought my boss's old one, and he bought a new one. Solid and made in GA. I will look for the price list tomorrow.

Your L4400 will handle a 6' easy. Would handle a 7' in all but the heaviest of uses.

I like my BB to be outside my tires a few inches so I can clean alongside things without hitting my tire.

What do you guys think about the hinged box blades?

I think they would work great for heavy cutting. Some of the high end blades offer a hinged rear cutter that can be pinned down or let swing.

I use my BB to retrieve gravel out of the lawn grass. I do that by extending the top link which puts all the weight of the blade on the rear cutter and allows the front cutter to skim over the grass while picking up the gravel. That'd be hard to do with a free swinging rear cutter.

Wonder how all that gravel gets in the grass anyway??? :ashamed:

I am sure the United is a fine piece of equipment.

Used it to redo my driveway and did a job in a parking lot. Not sure you can test a box blade much more than scrapping up an old gravel lot and resurfacing.

Looks smooth. Makes me eager to finally pull the trigger so I can smooth the ruts and potholes out in the driveway.

You did a very good job with that thing, it always amazes me how well they work.
