Help!! JD1070 - Engine Dies When Engaging PTO in Gear

Just glancing over the wiring diagram. The seat switch has three positions. On - Off - Defeat. Make sure the seat switch is in the on position instead of defeat.

Dumb question here: what is the purpose/function of the "Defeat" position?

Its so you can run the tractor with pto on nobody in the seat. Also on my jd770 the dealer said to run the trans in second gear with high low range in neutral when using the backhoe to lube all the trans gears

Also if you need the black box I have one that's good you can have it should fit, mine was a 1992 jd 770 just pm me

Thanks to all who assisted with this issue. It turned out to be the simplest of problems, as they often are. The seat switch had gone bad--it didnt matter if it was up, center, or down, a multi-meter proved that it was sending continuity on the "defeat" pins. After removing it and jumping the 1/3 wires, everything works as it should!!
