Thanks

Call Sparex Inc. 1-800-443-6472 and ask for a dealer nearest you, they may have something, I know they are carrying parts for that engine.

The TE were the english mainland tractors.. the TO series were the export models. TE means tractor england.. and TO means tractor overseas.. which is us.. america.. etc.

Still.. should fit.. etc.

He could also try restoration supply

Lots of antique tractor parts. HEck.. a MF dealer will probably fix him up too. A buddy of mine has a T0-20.. and gets most of his parts at a local MF dealer.

Thanks Ronnie ! that's the closest I've come so far.
It will certainly be a little pricey by the time i get it shipped to Canada, but I might have to bite the bullet.

A TE had a Standard Motors Gas, or diesel, the TO had a Continental gas, the TO35 had a Continental gas or a Standard Motors Diesel, and were built in Detroit, the Detroit built tractors had a Delco starter

No wonder I stick to fords mostly. All their early stuff is 1 model / 1 motor, and even subsequesnt models in the same line shared major components. nothing like having umpteen different engine configurations to really make parts finding heck on owners way down the road...

Kinda remids me of the early orphan tractors that used all off the shelf engines and modular components readilly available inthe early 1900's when fabbing tractors.. now tracking all that stuff down is like chaseing ghosts /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As an afterthough.. i wonder if his starter is not rebuildable? The starter on my NAA was nearly completely gutted. brush holders and field were gone.. only thing that was reused was the case and comutator after a good amount of lathe work on it. Between the new fields brush holder, brushes, drive mechanism, bearing and bushing, and a shiny coat of paint it was still 80$ and 2 day turn around from a local mom-n-pop shop.

Richard,
I hope it works, and I feel your pain. I have a TO 20 and it's a great tractor, but because of her age she's getting harder to find parts for. That's what prompted me to buy a new tractor and give the old girl a rest.

Soundguy! Rebuild would be easy, BUT....the only thing wrong with the starter is the drive gear is broken. the builders up here tell me they can't get that gear any more. Apparently there is a replacement starter by delco that is buildable but the lucas parts are not available?? Who Knows? If I could find a gear, the rest of the starter is A-1.

HAd it been a TO style.. I think you'd be in luck. The fergy bendix is similar to the ford bendix.. ring gear too. We just rebuilt a continental /redseal engine on an old stationary power unit, and the ring gear and starter drive were on the shelf items.. or 1 day order items from car quest..

I'll ask some of my fergy buddies about starter drive gears for the te series.

More info:

You sure that thing is not a TEA 20.. instead of a TE 20. Some books I've paged thru still show the TE20 as having the continental engine.. while showing the TEA 20 as having the standard engine. That's where some confusion on my part came from.

Also.. as you are aware.. the ytmag site sells a starter for a bit over 2bills.. perhaps they have the drive gear seperate?

Might also try to order it thru sparex.. like from a MF dealership.. Assuming it is a lucas part.. etc

E or EA, I wouldn't swear to, but it is a standard motor co. engine. The starter is Lucas, but my sources here in the handicapped colony say that the starter has been changed up. the Serial # is TE 78230. Have looked at some ford starters, and although similar, the drive is longer and the shaft is larger. In fact I have one here I thought I might make work, but there seems little hope as the gear teeth are larger as well.
Again thanks.

A friend just emailed me that he has a 12v lucas starter that came off a 1954 TEA20 that he's looking to sell.

If you have Interest, I'll get you two together and y'all can go over details.
( I have no financial interest in this transaction either way ).. just trying to help you find parts.

Can't bring myself to let it go. It belongs to a friend and has been in his family for YEEEAARS. It runs like a swiss watch and the tin is good, so I'd like to clean it up for him.
