Help Adjusting this rotary cutter!!!

I have looked and searched and read but am not sure how to set the top link on this cutter? I don't know what kind it is so I can't look it up. After I get the front 1 inch lower that the rear, where is the top link supposed to be between the arms? Or is it missing a piece. Thanks in advance.

If it were mine I'd use a chain for a third arm and probably adjust it till the pull pin is closest to tractor going through the chain and top link slot..

I'd probably raise the tail wheel up some (actually down with the arm) so my front is lower than the rear (blades).. IF it isn't already? Hard to tell in the pic and not on the tractor..

That top link was added by somebody it looks like to me.. Shame all mowers don't have that kind of flex built into them..

When you have the height and slope of the mower the way you need it, have the top link adjusted so on flat ground it sets in the middle of the slot.

Agree.
Without the top link connected, the tail wheel will determine the rear deck height, where you lower the 3PTH lift arms to (each time) will determine the front deck height.
When you have these two "set" on flat ground adjust top link like D2Cat says.

Having it in the middle lets the mower "pitch" (when tail wheel goes into a dip or over a hump).

Another school of thought is to adjust the top link to the front of the slot. When the rear tire goes over a hump, this lets the rear tire lift the BACK of the deck the Maximum amount before the whole deck and the tractor's lift arms also need to lift (or bend the brackets that run at 45 degrees between deck and top link connection);
the flip side is if the tail wheel lowers, rear of deck and tire immediately hangs in the air...but so what?

After you set the cutting height and 1" angle, set the top link so the front of the deck rises 6" before the rear wheel starts rising. Then, adjust to your personal liking. That type of top link connection, I like to have washers on the pin so it moves smoothly without getting bound in the slot.

My finish mower has a pivot for the top link that when set by their directions, allows the top link about 1" before it has tension on it.

Thanks for everybodys help. I got the washers, filled up the gear box, grease the u-joints, and will hook it up tomorrow.
