I started the last part of my 50 hour service today and I really messed up on this part.

See Photo:
A: Hydro transmission oil filter removed (no problem)

Looking at the Kubota manual an the picture shows the transmission drain plug under the filter. There are two large bolts where the picture shows the drain plug that did not make sense. (I'm a visual learner)

B: I filgured what harm to remove plug B in picture next to removed filter. A little fluid drained out and I thought not the plug, but did get a little extra fluid out, since the all seemed to lead to each other.

C: With no harm done on B: I move to C: I noticed a spring that shot out and said to my self, "Oh ****"

I picked op the screen from the oil pan, pushed/ quided it back into the hole and replaced the bolt. Concerned I looked over my manuals and couldn't find if I replaced this correctly. I got to thinking I better look at the oil pan a I noiced a metal ball bearing and I "Oh ****" again.

Here's a picture of the parts from point C:

The arrow show the direction of how I replaced these parts.
The ball bearing was placed on the top of the spring and quided back into the hole, washer, then bolt.

Did I replace this correctly. I don't want to put the new hydro fluid in, etc. until I know I did this correctly. I now question how nothing came out of plug B: ..the ball was so small, I'm sure it came from C: with the spring.

Just my .02$, but it appears there is a smaller or tapered end on the spring. I would think that end woud be the ball side. I definitely would like to hear from others.

Cleaned the hydro screen. Had very little metal fragments. Replaced the Hydro fluid and filled the fluid.

Started tractor, let run for a few minutes. The FEL worked perfect. No leaks anywhere.

50 hours is done. Thank God.

Still would like some reasurance on the spring and ball issue.

First the ball goes in, then the spring, washer on bolt and thats it. While I do not have yoour tractor model, it would indeed appear to simply be a bypass for the filter should it ever become ocluded and develop enough pressure to press the steel ball against the spring load enough to simply move oil through that passage. I have on many occasions pulled out similar bolts with a spring an steel ball. Our JD ZTR comes to mind. You will be fine.

Thanks RaT California...That's what I needed to hear.

Now that I've done the 50 hours..clean and waxed the tractor,
I'll be glad to simply climb in the seat and start using it.

Now let's see how I hold it together when I setup the 3 point hitch for the 1st time.

Sounds like it's time to sit back and have a cool one now that the job is done... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Next time it will even be easier...one less bolt to remove... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jim, for next time here is an exploded parts manual for your BX, courtesy of tractorsmart.

Click above on the underlined tractorsmart, it will lead you to a web page where you can download the parts manuals for your BX and accessories. They are pdf files and you need Adobe Acrobat reader to read them.

In the unlikely event you don't have Acrobat reader on your computer get one free at Adobe.com. It's really a valuable accessory for lots of information on the net.
