I'm really wondering if I would be happier with an 8 foot 3pt cutter instead. The double pto setup with the pedestal between them on my mx10 pull type worries me. There's different ways to go about upgrading/downgrading depending on my point of view.

I put the driveline back on this afternoon. Ill do some more cutting if the weather cooperates this weekend.

This (two PTO shafts & pedestal) are because it's a pull type, not because it's a 10' cutter. Unless you are thinking changing to an 8' and changing from pull type too, you will still have a double PTO shaft drive line.

I know- that's my point. I went with a pull type because I thought I could get away with slightly bigger. I've always hear that 3pt cutters require more horsepower for the same size cutter vs a pull type. So I figure if I go to a 3pt type I should go down in size a bit too. This is all just speculation and thinking, of course. Maybe I can learn to love my mx10 if it stays fixed.

The "more HP" is because you need a bigger tractor to handle the weight of the larger cutter. Looks almost like you could order the rear wheels for a semi mount, pull the tongue and hook your current mower up as a semi mount (per the picture at: IRON Search - 2003 John Deere MX10 Mower/Rotary Cutter For Sale By P&K Midwest in Iowa )

I had that thought too but I think it would require the rear wheel assembly, new shaft/clutch, and the front attachment bar.

I would check my salesman about cost to swap to a semi mounted unit.

I think you just need your dealer to set it up correctly and it should work fine
why down size if your tractor can handle it

Used it for 7 hours yesterday. I have to admit I came close to abusing it to see how it would hold up. Worked fine.

Sfsg. I haven't heard from dealer either. I don't know of we're good or they're waiting on warranty approval still.

Any more problems with the shredder? I bet the shaft was too long.

No. I put about 20 hours on it with meticulous clutch adjustment and it seems fine.

Spoke with salesman yesterday and he said they've got everything taken care of!

I'm now up to 60-something hours, and I must say it's a great machine/cutter and it fits my needs well. I feel like I have been treated right by James, Ron, and the guys in the service department at Donald Farm and Lawn in Rolla, MO. I would definitely recommend.
