I can certainly understand flying as an interest in Alaska (had brothers who lived in Anchorage for 20-25 years), but motorcycles??? Of course I did see a few on the Alcan on a couple of trips I made up there. Anyway, glad to have you join us on TBN.

Bird,
Flying brought me to Alaska in 1971 and I stayed. Can't seem to get bikes out of my life either. Now there is this john Deere thing I am going thru. I need cheaper hobbies or a wealthy girl friend.

"7.5 acres"

Isn't that about half of Skagway?

The bikes I ride have engines and make going up the hills very easy. I have more space than most here in the valley and hope to increase my garden patch to take advantage of the arcerage.
Yes, Soapy Smith's grandson still provides treats at the grave yard each year. Part of history.

I was commander of the helicopter section of the Dallas Police Department in late '73, early '74 and one of my pilots left to go to Alaska to fly choppers up there, but I can't remember who he went to work for.

All my motorcycling was from Pikes Peak to the Texas coast to Atlanta, GA, to Washington, DC, and points in between; never got up very far north.

Bird,
I work for the park service and we fly a lot with the local operator here in the support of our trail systems. Temsco has been here for awhile but not based in Skagway for that long. We get to ride in A-stars and 500's most of the time and enjoy every minute of it. It is all part of the job. :)

Hi, welcome to the list. I spent 2 years in Fairbanks (Eilson) flying recon for the USAF 1971-73. Also, I did a lot of dirt biking and even raced on ice once! We are planning on taking a cruise next summer and doing the Misty fjords tour on a Beaver (Ketchican) while there. I hope to sit right seat on the flight. I have always hoped to fly one, so sitting right seat is second best. I have a private strip here in Kentucky and fly a Zenith 701 that I built in 2004 from it. We are taking the train in Skagway. Also, touring Eilson while we are there. Most of what I remember about Alaska was cold and you could make the rounds in the Fairbanks bars without ever going outside. Spent way too much time on Shemya, horrible place! I still keep in touch with some of my old flying buddies from those days. It is beautiful country and I enjoyed it when it wasn't 40 below!
