2006 TYM T700
Hi my name is Dave i have been lurking for a while and what started the lurking was when I took a trip to the woods with my buddy and he brought his tc45 4x4 we dropped 8 trees ash and elm. I was amazed at how well a tractor could get around climbing hills in the snow and manuerving about like a billy goat then after we loaded a 18 ft bri-mar and his duramax we drove down the lane and he gets this bright idea to cut across the field and about half way across he buries the truck no more forward progress well we hook the tractor to the truck and couldn't believe that that tractor pulled him out, I was able to see first hand the usefull utility of a tractor pretty cool! so now I am looking to buy a used tractor it will be used primarily for hauling logs out of the woods to be used for firewood plow snow and thinking about growing some crops beans and corn just not sure about the crops maybe hay. I currently own a 773 bobcat 500k edition (cab with heat and air) and that is what I use currently to fetch wood.( it is also what I am working with to buy a tractor must sell first or trade) In the winter time it doesn't do so well in the snow so trips to the woods are not possible and when wet in the spring not possible hopefully some of you can let me know if a tractor 4x4 is a good idea for the woods in the winter and spring how much snow is too much and how much mud can a tractor go through I suppose as long as you have traction you're good to go. Thanks in advance. Dave

Welcome from the Fenton Area (60ish miles east of you). A tractor is at home in the woods in the winter if we ever get a winter. I've been using mine to fetch firewood all winter long. the 6" of snow we have now does'nt even slow it down. We have not had anything more than about 6" in the time I've owned it but with about 20" of ground clearance to the axles i would suspect more. Snow makes skidding logs easier. I will say they will go through a lot of mud but you have to be careful I buried my front axle in the swamp trying to retrieve a giant piece of swamp oak I buried my forks about 3 feet into the muck before i hit a solid bottom. I pulled the stump of an uprooted oak out of the ground that my neighbor could not budge with his fullsize z71 pickup.

He only traded to get an enclosed cab and oh yah he only drove it on Sundays. lol jk about the only driving on Sundays.

Welcome aboard. It would aid in your plans if you you had 4 wheel drive and a FEL-frontend loader on your tractor. Best wishes.

Welcome from North of Upstate Ny(Canadian Border),love Michigan by the way.Yes tractors are quite handy in the woods.4wd,FEL,R1(Ag)tires and if you do a lot of logging,a skidding winch. You may want to pass on a cab version for the woods.Look at 30-40 HP and 3,000lbs bare tractor weight minimum.

I want to thank everyone for the welcomes I did in fact buy the 2410 New Holland and have put 12 hours on it. I am really liking all the tasks that this tractor can handle I have plowed snow with the bucket skidded logs and am cleaning up one of our woodlots and am considering putting in either beans or hay (beans or hay may be more of a dream than anything at this point but it is a realistic goal because of the tractor)
thanks to all.
