Never Enough Steiner/Ventrac stuff on here.

Little excursion to grind a stump and pull out some unwanted bushes for my lady friend.

I just really prefer never to pull a trailer if I don't have to. The ramps could stand to be a bit longer for a 3/4 ton truck. I had some folding ones
at the limit of the Steiners weight that buckled. Had my Lady friend return them to Canadian Tire. Told her to make sure to mention, I was almost
killed! lol

Nice!

I did the same thing with my Power Trac PT425 many times when I didn't feel like hooking up the trailer. I removed my tailgate, though, because I didn't trust it. I see you have a brace under yours. Mine was a full sized 8' bed. I could back that thing right up in there with a 5' finish mower easy peasy. Then off to mow the Little League or wife's church, etc...

There is also some formed 1/4" checker plate to straddle the tailgate. I long ago adopted a policy of tapping a 1/2" hole in the bottom of my hitch receivers so I could snug them up with a bolt. Takes the wobble out of this arrangement nicely. Life would be easier with an eight foot box though.

The newer machines are more powerful and sophisticated, but the older smaller machines had some advantages. They used to raise them with a FEL to the second story of chicken barns for cleanout, which has become difficult with the newer larger machines.

Nice tailgate brace! I bent the tailgate pivot brackets on my 04 Duramax tailgate loading my ventrac 4231 with slip scoop into it. I can tell you the tailgate on my old truck a 2000 Ram Cummins is way stronger I loaded that same machine for 2 yrs several times and never bent anything .

Backing up to a hill would take some of the excitement out of loading too !

The hill helps more for reducing angle of approach. I miss the longer folding ramps, well not really!

Nothing broken, just time wasted.

No injuries or damage is a good day. One of our cats assisted me in installing a dishwasher yesterday. Quite handy.

As much as they can be without thumbs. On the other hand, some people try and help that are nothing but thumbs.

At least the cat was fun to work with. Climbed under the sink as soon as I took out everything to get to the water shutoff. Climbed into the hole where the old dishwasher came out. Reached under the open cabinet door and whacked my hands and tools every time they came past. And decided to climb up on my side while I was laying on the floor hooking up the electric and leveling the feet!

When in doubt on the ramp capacity, a short piece of wood bracing it at 1/2 span may of make the difference.

I remember my gound-keeper days with a Stiener. Going down hill with a heavy mower on front that when lifted, the back tires would lift instead of the mower....turns out you can't steer an articulated machine worth a dang with only one axle on the ground (go figure!)....you just slide forward in the seat and had to make sure you didn't get pinched between the front and back section when it turned in the air.
I guess it could of used the suitcase weights you have.

Yeah. You do not want to raise a heavy implement going down a hill without weight on the back. Or even forget to have it in float, as it's pretty much the same thing.

On most PowerTracs, the seat is on the front half, not the rear half. So the operator doesn't get flung around when the back half tries to pass you, and you can't get pinched if you keep your feet in the foot wells. The seat can tip forward, though, and then you get the steering wheel in your belly. But if you drop the FEL load, the rear sets down, and you can steer again. And you always have brakes with even just one wheel on the ground. Just let off the pedal.

OK, now it makes more sense how those ramps folded. Seeing the pictures with the rear wheels still on the tailgate made me wonder how the ramps couldn't support half the Steiner weight at that point. But now understanding it would have been just before that point, while leaning downhill, the weight was probably lifted off the rear and full onto the front wheels that were directly over the hinges on the ramps.

I can't honestly remember if I was loading or unloading. I'm kind of thinking loading, because somehow I remember, I had to scrap my mission, which I guess was a good thing, because I would have had no resources at the other end to deal with this.

I can't really tell about the talegate. Not meaning to nitpick. No one bothers you about the SMV on the highway?

Not mine but thought you guys would enjoy the pictures. This is owned by a University I work at for a short time.. Just took notice that's a Ventrac.

I sold that truck 2 yrs ago .... and never been bothered about the placard , I never put it in the bed of that truck again , it’s usually on one of my 3 trailers , ones enclosed so you don’t see it.

I notice the Ventrac has two sets of remotes out front. Nice.
