Kubota B7610
I have asked this several years ago, but I am just now able to make a purchase. The responses I got back then was with prices before the steel price increase and some of the responses I received were websites listed that do not exist any longer, and even I can't find my original post. :) I have a B7610 hydro and I am looking at whether to get a 4 ft, or a 5 ft. Some websites I visit say that my tractor can handle the 5 footer and others say that it can't. The type of ground that I am going to be working is virgin, with red clay mixed in certain spots. I am also wondering what the difference between the gear driven and the chain driven models. I would like to hear from someone out there with a B7610 or similar model tractor with some advise on which one.

I have been given quotes on the woods models, and of course the TSC model. I have also been given quotes on some off brand models. I like the heavy duty, gear drive of the TCS model but the five footer is heavy.

thanks,

Donald

Your B7610 should handle a 5' tiller, I like the king Kutter over the one TSC sells west of the mississippi river. East of the river there Country Line brand is made by King Kutter. I know of a guy that runs a KK 5' on a Kubota BX2660.

*3 on tsc. I use a 60" kk from tsc on my jd2320 which is only 18pto hp. It works well, but its the max width for sure.

The Phoenix T4-59" tiller should suit your BX tractor better than the TSC/Tarter/KK/Behlen/County Line.....whoever makes em for TSC. The phoenix will provide you 59" of tilling width but the weight is not overbearing. It also features an adjustable clevis hitch, 6 tines per flange and a slip clutch pto shaft. All of our tillers ship free to a business or supporting freight terminal within 1,000 miles of Newton, NC.

I don't know why you say it fits better. Btw the kk has a slip clutch as well. The 60" has seven tines per flange. Its a tank. I wouldn't worried about the extra weight as its on the ground when working plus it probably helps in bounce less. Only problem in the reviews are no after sales customer service from kk, you must go thru tsc which is fine.

Either tiller is fine. For smaller tractors, I just like the adjustable clevis hitches on the Phoenix so you can set them at the perfect width. They're also easier for hooking up than the bolted on pins. The phoenix comes with a slip clutch pto shaft along with 6 tines per flange. KK also has 6 tines per flange.

With your 18 pto HP and the ground you described, be prepaired to go VERY slow if you buy a 60 " tiller. For over 20 years I have paired up 18 pto HP to a 50" tiller and wished I had more HP. Even in some established gardens, the second pass really taxed my engine, enough to make me stop to let the RPM's catch up. Tractor Data says your B7610 is 46.3 inches wide, I wouldn't get much bigger than that.

Well one thing to consider is will the OP get a bigger tractor?

He's been riding that B7610 since 2004!!

If he gets a bigger tractor a 60" might be fine. Go slow now with a 60", and go fast when he buys for example a M4700, with 42HP at the PTO. It would be small for the M4700, but then would work for both.

One thing he should do is "test" drive one if possible. Sunbelt rental rents 65" tillers for about $90/day. Perhaps other places rent smaller ones.

I just went through this myself with a B7510 that has 17 PTO HP. I finally settled on a Befco 50" tiller and was able to use it a little so far this year. It seems like a good match for my tractor and soil and covers my tracks perfectly. I would not want to go to a 5 foot tiller as I believe that would work the tractor way to hard. For myself, 50" seems like the perfect match.
