Rake Harley Rake vs Rockhound

/ Harley Rake vs Rockhound #21
Kwahl, I'm getting ready to do the same thing. I've got two acres that was disc'd before my house was built but it's really bumpy and rough - and full of rocks & weeds. Here's my plan: The 2nd week in August I'm going to spray roundup on the whole area - kill it all. A week later I'll respray any area's that I missed. The first week of September I'm going to apply some starter fertilizer and then take a Harley Rake (rental) to the whole area windrowing the rock which I'll then pick up with my loader and working the fertilizer into the seedbed. I plan on making a second or even third pass with the Harley Rake in certain areas in different directions in order to help smooth things out. Then I'll apply the seed with a Kasco Seed-n-Pack. I'm still on the fence about whether to blow straw as mulch or to use a pelletized paper mulch like PennMulch. If I blow straw then I'll have to put down some more starter fertilizer. Then all that's left is to pray for nice steady rain - the area is non-irrigated.
