Particularly if she trades sides of the bed the next night.

I thought the correct modern spelling was "hafta"

Silver And Deming Drill Bit Set 9/16 to 1", with 1/2" shanks, $35. After 25% coupon = $26.25. Any good?

I've got a set like that (mine goes up to 1 1/4") and have only used them but only to chase and clear out existing drilled holes or expand an already drilled hole by a small amount like 1/16th or so. I used a drill press with cutting oil and for my purpose they worked fine. They stayed sharp and worked well with no burring of the drill edge. I went slow speed and they cut clean.

That's all I have done with them because I lack the confidence to try to drill a new hole. They look and feel like they would do it but someone else will have to answer that part. Hope my comments help.

I also have a set of them. They are good but you have to be sure to securely clamp whatever you are drilling with them. Don't attempt to drill with a hand drill because if the bit catches it will twist your arm off. Same goes for using a drill press. Never try holding what you are drilling. If the bit catches it will rip it right out of your hands. Been there, done that.

My experience has been the same. I have the same set, I use it in the drillpress and have been happy with it. I only have 10-20 holes drilled with it though, but I always use cutting oil (CRC foaming cutting oil purchased from HF).

You really want to step drill with these things, that 1/2 shank isn't enough to take the torque of pushing a bigger drill thru. I'd drill with a 1/8, then a 1/4, then a 1/2, then to a 1 inch or more. IMHO, you need clearance for the web on the bigger drills. I've got that set, it works fine, but my little drill press isn't up to putting a big hole in a hunk of steel either....:)

And coolant helps a lot!
