I don't know that this is applicable, but some kinds of metal are going up in price almost daily. Chip shortages are a big issue in automotive production and may be affecting ag stuff too, depending on the level of tech. This is also driving up prices in the pre-owned market as well. Don't even get me stated on building materials.

I've got a Massey GC2300 and a pair of older Kubota's (1980's vintage). If I had done some research on the cost of parts I would have avoided the Massey. It's a decent tractor however AGCO has a hard lock on the availability and price of parts and they are spendy compared to Kubota parts. I can shop around for Kubota parts, including from European sources to get the best prices (even after shipping costs). I expect that JD would be the same as Massey, tightly restricted availability and prices near identical from all sources.

So for that reason, at some point the Massey will be finding a new home and I will replace it with a similar Kubota.
I don't know about Massey, But Deere goes out of its way to design things so that only their replacement parts will work. No going out and buying universal-fit anything on a Deere. Not if they can help it, anyway.

That's a company I don't want to business with. Not Deere in particular, but any company that does that. And Deere is bad for an American Company. embarrassing

Japanese cars are bad about that. We had a Nissan in the shop some years ago that I remember. Needed an electric radiator fan. An American car, a Ford or something, you could get a fan for about $30. But none of them would fit so the only place to get one was from Nissan -- $250 for a $30 fan. They do it on purpose. Too many of them.

They're in the parts business, not the car/tractor business.

Trane used to be like that, too. They'd design parts so the only place you could get them was from them.

Thanks for the head-sup. I just crossed MF off my list.

I went to my Jd dealer today to buy a tractor. Unfortunately the sales guy I got the quote from wasn’t there. Different sales guy meets me I tell him I’m looking at a1025r. He says I’m working up a quote right now for someone else. He says tractor loader mower for 18,500. I’m thinking ( to myself) cool $200 less than first quote. I asked him to answer a couple of question I had , he did so but I started getting the vibe I was annoying him. So I said let’s go inside and do it up. He sits down starts on paperwork. Meantime the guy he shares an office with is calling someone in management. I hear his side of the conversation only but basically he’s making sure not to undercut a sister dealer and making them aware of what he priced a tractor to customer. My sales guy finishes up and writes $19000 on a post it note and slides it over to me. I ask him what’s this he says that’s your quote plus tax. I in formed him I already had a quote from here and reminded him he said 18,500 in parking lot. He claims the 18, 500 was for a 54 inch deck. Anyway it turned me sour so I’m off to look more.
Today's tractors (most) are all durable and have great features. I think if you want a Green or Orange or Red or Blue, you should invest in what you feel best about. HOWEVER, I did not want to spend money on a major purchase with someone that didn't understand how hard it is to let go or commit to 20K-30K. If you found the tractor you like, now find the Green dealer you like.
On a side note (Diggin It reminded me of this), a friend of mine purchased a tractor in Arkansas (Orange). He lived just across the state line in another state. The dealer told him that if he had the tractor delivered by the dealer (cost $100) out of state, there was no sales tax. Saved him about $1500. Enjoy your tractor when you get it. Best Wishes,Larry

It’s called price fixing and it violates federal antitrust law. Price fixing is an agreement (written, verbal, or inferred from conduct) among competitors that raises, lowers, or stabilizes prices or competitive terms. Illegal price fixing occurs whenever two or more competitors agree to take actions that have the effect of raising, lowering or stabilizing the price of any product or service without any legitimate justification.
Greqt point. It is kind of petty but it is also a violation of federal law.

I did. The salesman in Wyoming said I would actually save a few dollars if I paid the South Dakota use tax. I really don't know if I did or not.

Called the South Dakota tax commission to get the amount owed and the guy I talked to was very surprised I called them. However he did thank me.

I bought a tractor several hours away, in MN. By having them deliver it I actually saved money, as I was now "buying" it in South Dakota and asked them to re-work the invoice w/ South Dakota tax. Yep, the state of MN actually paid to deliver my tractor and paid me a little to boot.

That salesman did you a favor go check out that a load capacity on the front loader and on a three-point hitch and you will find that they are not up to the rest of the tractors check out Branson do your homework on them they have the biggest three-point lift capacity and front loader capacity of any tractor of the same size also check the prices at kenotractor.com they ship all over the US and even with the shipping they are still more reasonable on prices and there parts and warrenty are excellent

Wish I had access to the kind of pricing you do. My 1025r quote from may 2020 for just tractor, loader and backhoe was $30,700 CAD, a $3,300 discount for a total of $27,400 plus tax. At current exchange that is $22,168 USD. The price with the other attachments I wanted was high enough that I purchased a large frame compact Bobcat tractor with same attachments for only $2,500 more and all of that was due to the backhoe difference which is far more capable, as is the rest of the tractor for that matter at 3,300lb bare tractor weight with loaded tires.

The 1025r is nice, but buying JD my tractor choice was being decided by my budget (I needed bigger), whereas other brands allowed me to pick a tractor based on my needs
I did a similar thing. I love my Bobcat!

Thanks Larry, I really like my trailer too. I’ve had it about 10 years and it’s been great to have. I’ve hauled several vehicles and a couple tractors on several trips with it.

I believe they call that collusion when they inform other dealers to set prices. Maybe a call to your Attorney Generals office might shake them up!
