gt5000 needs motor

I have recently acquired a used gt5000 with the "bad" air filter system. Yes it eats oil like crazy and the tubes that leave the filters and head down to the carbs are filthy. I am wondering if craftsman or bs ever were sued or recalled these motors and or what is the best/cheapest way to put a good motor on this chasey. The rest is in real good shape and will make a good mower. I like Honda but to match shaft and motor mounts might be hard right?? If you have any thoughts I'd love to hear em'
