Growin' my own

And if you got a FEL you're way ahead on either starting or maintaining a compost pile.
I've always had a compost pile but until I got my tractor with the FEL I was trying to stir the pile with the blade on my little Cub Cadet. Plus the FEL makes it a breeze to carry and move the compost to the garden.

Our tractor has made a huge difference in the size and production from our garden and orchard space. First of all, our horse and mule manure fueled compost piles mean we don't need to buy fertilizer. What began as a patch of clay soil full of rocks, is now a 75' x 150' garden. I was given a spring harrow and use it to till the garden plot which works fine. We keep the weeds down by using a lot of mulch. Our garden is a lot of work, but the tractor does the heavy lifting. We've also added a 16' x 24' hoop house that allows us to grow veggies throughout our winter months. Bananas are about the only reason we have to go to the store, and I like it that way. Store bought does not compare in flavor to the food you grow yourself, IMHO. I enjoy it more than ever now that I'm a retired old coot.
