I want to put studs on my rear tires this winter. Looked at gripstuds(protrude 5mm) and igrips(protrude 3mm). The gripstuds are slightly more in price. Anyone have any info on which might be better on gravel roads? I am thinking the gripstuds might be slightly better as they are longer

If you have run the tires on the vehicle at all you can't stud them. Minute bits of dirt collect in the hole and the studs won't stay. Studs are generally for icy roads, anyhow. The road surface doesn't matter if it's covered by ice and snow. If you can see it's a gravel road you probably don't need studs.

Longer studs will damage asphalt more. If you have enough weight you don't need them to stick out too far.

Should mention this is for a Kubota L3301. It's never on Asphalt

I have studs on mine done by the previous owner. No problem studding previously driven tractor tires since all that I have seen are not pre drilled for studs.

I would probably go for the shorter ones since they are less likely to get ripped out and like someone else said if you have enough weight they will grip the ice. not as much as chains but noticeably more than just the tires.
