Satoh S650G
Hello everyone. I am new to the forum, but have search quite extensively and come up with very little. I am currently looking at a Satoh S650G tractor to buy. The guy seems to be honest but was wondering if anyone has seen this. When trying to put the tractor in gear it grinds hard and when switching to high or low it does the same. I checked the fluid for the transmission and it is low, but I am not sure that is the problem. He tells me that the clutch has been replaced by the previous owner. This is the only thing i can see wrong with the tractor. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

No expert here, but I suspect it is the clutch. Maybe it just needs adjustment.

If anything like its successor the Mitsubishi*, the gears are not synchronized so shifting cannot be done in motion.

*most probably the same transmission.

I was shifting it without it moving at all. How do you adjust the clutch on these thing?

I have the repair manual and I see nothing on adjustments. I was hoping it was like a cable clutch and you just adjust it that way. But I see no way to do that.

Sounds like a clutch problem to me as well. There is likely some mechanical adjustment in the clutch pedal linkage...but i'm unfamiliar with this model

Try some googling if you don't get an answer here.

I have been, and not a whole lot of information about these tractors. Very strange.

Seems like there should be some way to adjust the clutch.

Did you let out on the clutch in between shifting? If so that will get the tranny gears moving again. This is normal on non-synchronized transmissions, moving or not.

I have not tried that, but I will thanks.

Call Valley Power on their 800 number 800-609-5110. They know these backwards and forwards.

That will only help it grind more. If you push in on the clutch and wait a few seconds, giving the spinning gears time to stop, there should be no grinding. If it still grinds, the clutch needs adjustment or was installed wrong. I would also recommend Valley Power.
