A post from the pilot of the Coe Luisa in Duluth MN.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I see the Coe Luisa finally made her way out of Duluth and made her way to Thunder Bay. Fun story as I was the pilot that brought her in. I was telling the Captain, Oleg Falaleev, about the crowds that line the piers and Boatnerd’s. He found it very fascinating and then I told him about being able to watch the live stream of us coming in through the piers. He was thrilled about that and actually watched our approach on the live stream. I explained the tradition of the salute for the Aerial Bridge and explained he could either blow one long and two short or three long and two short. At first he was only going to give a 1+2 but I could see his wheels were turning and he got all exited about it. When the moment of truth came he looked at me and said “let’s do 3+2”…….I gave him a thumbs up and told him when to trigger the whistle. After he blew it I told him he had to go out on the wing and wave!! He loved it! It was his very first time on the Great Lakes and I think he thoroughly enjoyed the story’s and history of it all. She was a fun boat with a great crew!!
