Quite A few local small town historical museums dotting the shorelines of the great lakes have lots of info on ships and shipwrecks I first learned about aircraft carriers on the great lakes during ww2, visiting a small town hole in the wall museum in northern lower Michigan. I was so surprised I ended up having a interesting conversation with one of the local museum volunteers., who knew so much more than anything i ever read.

The first visit this season for the Mesabi Miner had the footer loading ore at CN for Cleveland. A nice sunrise was followed by clear blue sky and an early afternoon departure with our fresh snow providing a nice backdrop. Duluth, MN - March 28, 2024

The Twin Ports first ocean vessel of the season arrived overnight and went to anchor. The Barbro G will come in Monday morning to load wheat at Riverland AG. The Algoma Discovery is in the distance waiting for the Burns Harbor to become unstuck and depart BNSF Dock 5. I like how you can see the bells in the "Old Central high school" clock tower, now repurposed into apartments. Duluth, MN - March 29, 2024

Just head that the American Mariner is on the move. The St Marys River at the Soo is no longer blocked. The rest of the weekend will be busy for ship watchers

We passed through Duluth today folks but didn't take photos or stop.. My camera crapped out and didn't have a spare like l imagined I did. A boat loaded pellets at the BNs dock in Superior and couldn't back out due to low water. Another pulled up beside and they transferred some pellets off. There are photos of this if someone cares to post them.

The harbor was low due to west wind that blew for a few days. I'd post pics but can't while using my phone of the burns harbor uploading pellets to get out.

Here's the low water story. We have a west wet wind building up here and some boats have already went to safe harbors.

A rare occurrence today as the H. Lee White took on ore from former fleetmate Burns Harbor at BNSF Dock 5. The Burns Harbor had loaded heavy and was touching bottom, so it needed to unload a portion of its cargo. The White was enroute to Silver Bay when it was diverted to Superior to handle the lightering. The crew in the small boat was checking draft readings. Not a good week for Rand with the American Mariner and Burns Harbor grounding. Superior, WI - March 30, 2024
