I pulled the MMM off last night for the first time since I got my BX last week. Basically just wanted to see how easy it was to take off and put back on. While I had it off, I decided to clean it up a bit. In another post I read where you should grease the MMM after about 10 hours of use. So, out comes the grease gun for some action.

My question is how much grease should you put in the spindles, I pumped 6-8 times and never felt that resistance that I'm used to. Excess grease didn't appear from anywhere on the spindles. Do I have enough grease in those spindles or not...

The first time I greased my MMM I wondered the same thing. So, I just gave it several pumps like you did in order to give me the warm fuzzy feeling that it was well greased. From then on, I just gave it 1 to 2 pumps for all following greasings.
The first time I took the blades off for sharpening, I found out where all that grease was going. The metal "cup" under the blades was pretty full of grease. There was my confirmation that I had sufficiently greased.

Gobbler,
Thanks for the feedback on the Woods tiller. A tiller is definitely on my wishlist. I know the situation with the greasing of the spindles. A few pumps every 10-15 hours is my approach. I am sure this is more maintainence and grease than most mowers receive!

I know exactly what you mean,
The first time I greased mine I gave a few pumps and wondered where it was going. I now am in the habbit of taking the mower off when not mowing and give it a couple pumps of grease about every other mowing (aprox 6 hours)
It may be excessive but will surely not hurt anything.
After removing the deck a few times it is really fast.

The dealer told me to give each spindle 2-3 pumps before every mowing, I'm doing about 2.5 acres once a week. The other fittings, once a year. This is the second time I got that same advice.

The guy also mentioned that most people NEVER grease them, and they run a long time that way, but eventually you eat up a spindle bearing and they start rattling.
