grease gun

Why would anyone that uses a grease gun more than a few times a year ever buy one that needs tubes of grease over one you can self load from a 5 gallon pail.. When I did the math on tubes over pails here in panama I get equivalent of 10 free tubes out of a 5 gallon pail.

personally i dont like cordless grease guns as i think they put out too much grease. most people i know overgrease their stuff, and just create a mess. i just use a pistol grim model with a lock n load tip. way cheaper than the one linked above. I mean i guess if i was doing a fleet of tractors or used it daily in construction, i may think differently.
Exactly what I have (pistol grip model)... the lock and load tip is on the way from Amazon.. a bit of a lead time and not a cheap piece at $32 but I've wasted too much grease due to a loose tip connection I didn't see until I noticed the big blob oozing out under the tip, creating a mess. The lock-on attachment will save me some grease and frustration. Good option grsthegreat!

Yes, I have it, and it's great.

LockNLube Heavy Duty Pistol-Grip Grease Gun

$77 at Amazon.

>For just a few bucks more, you can get a DeWalt battery powered grease gun. 20

More like three times the price, if the next poster is correct.

It was painful for me to opt for the $77 brand. No way would I spend $229!

I should probably add: I am neither rich nor do I earn a living from my tractor or any of my tools.

I bought my Lock&Lube from Amazon. Free shipping for Prime customers plus 5 percent back on the Chase Amazon Prime credit car.

$7 for a cartridge of Valvoline Crimson, $6.64 on Subscribe & Save for six-month, three-month, two-month delivery. Free shipping. 5 percent back on my credit card.

(Since the Chinese flu came to live with us, I have been spending $400/month on Amazon. It's terrific. Usually two-day delivery, sometimes one-day. The warehouse is a reconstituted Costco store there's a sign of changing times! -- forty miles from our house. I know all the drivers by now. They deliver on Sunday, too.)

This thread has been helpful, so I found something to share.

One of my personal pet peeves is manufacturers (not just tractors) who try to pretend that their branded grease (or other consumables) are the only ones that will work. People too lazy or afraid to do research end up spending millions, collectively, for overpriced products.

Torvy,

Excellent link. Well done. I really appreciate when contributors publish 3rd party information that is informative.

I grease my mower deck spindles without removing the deck. I don't have enough clearance above the center spindle to use the LocknLube coupler.
Get a 90 degree coupler adapter. There are several styles available: right angle grease adapter - Image Search

$160 bare tool for Ryobi. It is very well built and makes me want to use a grease gun again.

I must have missed something. That article gave very little information on what grease to use - basically check your owners manual.
Try a TMT -

Why my 150 pound open head ARO grease pump has a weighted follower plate sitting on top of the grease, it eliminates air entrapment.

No way will you ever remove all the air from a cartridge load grease gun. You can get most of it out with the air bleeder most cartridge guns have, but not all. I find the LNL claim to be misleading and their gun is way overpriced too, but then it does come with their LNL coupler (that I don't use) anyway.

Because I bulk load my lever grease guns from my air greaser, I never get any air in them. It's all grease so trapped air is never an issue and because all my lever guns have polycarbonate clear barrels, I can see how much grease is in them at all times.
I don't trust LNL either. That is way I asked if someone had the easy prime gun.I don't grease enough to get a system like yours. The price of the easy prime gun would be fine with me if it works as claimed. Thanks for your feed back.

I liked the deeper understanding of the types of grease. It said to check the manual for the requirements, but, to me, made it clear that you have choices once you know what type is needed. The point is that the OEMs do not have some magic grease. They put their name on someone else's grease and charge extra for the branding.

I also liked the little hints for people new to this, like wiping off the excess. I know people who swear that leaving excess exposed makes it better somehow. It just makes your chances of collecting dirt, and potentially getting it in bad places, much higher.

I like Neil's videos too, most of the time. Sometimes he tries too hard to sell something, but it is his job...
