grease gun accident

by the end of week three it will smell so bad you will take a rotory tool to it and what the doc say's will take six week's to heal will only take 3

LOL! Been there /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The only bone I've ever broken was years ago - I rolled my ankle over hard enough to crack a bone in my foot. The doctor put on a fiberglass cast up to my knee (?!)

One day later the top edge was digging into my leg. A few minutes with a Dremel tool and carbide burr and the cast was now just over my ankle.

Another couple days and it was way too hot and sweaty. This time the Dremel tool had a 1/8" drill bit in it. Cast looked like swiss cheese. All over.

Two more days and the cotton they had wrapped my foot in before casting was all crushed down and the cast was looser than my shoes normally are. Besides, it was starting to smell bad. Let's see now, where did I put the Dremel tool ....

I think I had it on for 5 days before cutting it completely off. Never did go back to the doctor for fear of getting in big trouble. Took months before I could walk normally without thinking carefully about how I was putting my foot down, and now I've got a nice bump sticking out of the side of my foot, but knowing me I'd probably do the same thing again ....

ps. Get well soon, Randy. Don't follow my example. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi all,

Sorry to hear the accident.

I am actually a Design Engineer for Power Tools. I am happened to be working on a Cordless Power Grease Gun. I am especially concern about safety of Grease Gun usage when I begin to research on the grease gun

Any sugguestions or idea on this area?
Besides safety, other improvement such as ease of usage etc..

Walltool. The only thing I see in grease gun that could be done is make the end that fits the zerk with some kind of release. Sort of like a quick connect on an air hose. The most pain grease guns cause,at least for me, Is when pulling the hose, pulling harder and then it pops off. Depending on your body position its 1)elbow onto hard floor,2)but onto hard floor,3)getting a "RANDY"
or 4) smacking your self in the face.If you could design one that clamped tighter on the fitting to get grease in the hole and then released with a simple thumb and finger pull I buy it.

I'm all for that.

I tried pushing up and down and the tip would just not come off and when it did from a hard yank you see what can happen.

When i was 16 i broke my left arm at school gymnastics, dropping dow a good 5 meters from the swinging acrobat rings. school fellas said that i felt down like a cat, swinging my arms around and then bending my back and sticking my arms and legs down to deal with gravity, like a cat...
After 2 weeks i was cutting a hedge in my mothers garden, getting sick of doing nothing.. With my lower arm and elbow in the gypsum (in typical L-bow shape), i didnt feel quite safe on the ladder.... so i put my elbow on the table and with 2 hands strong i broke the elbow in the gypsum so i could stretch out my arm enough to hold a ladder, while the other could hold the scissors..
1 week later, i had been spreading hog manure at saturday. Off course it smelled like sh*t and I was disabled to go to church on sunday this way... Finally my mother agreed that i would take the rest off and wash my arm, which kinda looked wrinkled and oohhh,... the smell underneath was unbelievable...

Anyways good luck with the healing. It doesnt allways take 6 weeks, my brother is a blacksmith and was hit by a horse. When they took another X-ray after a week to check if the bones were still aligned correctly, they saw that it was already healed

The very end of the part that goes over the fitting should un-screw but lately all of the manufacturers have been using locktite on the with them screwed on to tight. you'll have to put the tip in a vise and use pliers to un-scew the end, remove the locktite, put it back on and the you can adjust it to come off easily.
