Backhoe Grandpa's new toy!!

Ok, my grandpa just bought him a new to him toy. He is trying to find out how old it is and just exactly what he has. It says JD400 on the front loader. It is a backhoe and painted a pale yellow. wrong color im sure but it is Industrial. The Type # is :E9400. The serial # is: 001891U i believe. It is slighty painted over and this is the best i can make it out. Does anyone have any idea what year it is and just what exactly he has?

Sounds like a 1960's industrial tractor with a hoe on it. Here is the Tractordata info and to get a better idea of what you have stop by a Deere yellow dealer and bring in the model and sn they should be able to date it and provide you with more info.
