My Dad had a 79 CJ 7. HORRIBLE daily driver! And not worth beans on a snowy highway either. The torque of that straight six was impressive, even at idle.

Your father was part of the reason that Jeeps went downhill. They were designed and meant to be used as an off road utility vehicle, which could also spent time on the road. It was never meant to be a daily driver, and swapped ends too easily to be a daily on road snow vehicle.

the Jeep Wrangler is separated from other "SUVs" for one very important reason. I'll let you figure out what that is. :)

Liberty is not a "Jeep". Neither is a Bronco. No comparison. :)

Good news I figured it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To me the true Jeep ended with the CJ-7 in the 80s. The CJ-5 was produced for nearly 30 years.

Now that right there is really hard to nail down. The CJ was much better Jeep than the flatties. The YJ is much better than the CJ. The TJ is much better than the YJ.

As long as they continue with the framed, solid axle concept they will continue to improve with each model change. :)

My son has a 1966 Ford Bronco all original; that thing couldn't go down hill and hit 60mph, and it rides like a wheeled rock. But it could climb a tree and pull out stumps.

A 66 Bronco isn't capable in the slightest if compared to a Rubicon Jeep, which cannot climb a tree....

I am a bit prejudiced about them. My most cherished possession is a 54 CJ-3B, for 45 years now, the last model of the flatties.

And then there was the International Scout. Bronco & Land Rover. All poor imitations of the original..Jeep..;)

There is no doubt, that my father just having been divorced, bought his 79 CJ in a mid life crisis.

Thing once got blown onto it's side in an unexpected heavy cross wind on an expressway.
