Is the cruise control on the grand L series electronic (digital setting) ?

On my L5030 it is a lever on the port side of the seat. Moving the lever forward increases cruise speed and visibly links with the HST pedal: you can see and feel the pedal depress as if you were stepping on it.

That movement results in a green "Cruise" light on the dash, and the speed is indicated digitally on the intellipanel.

I wish that cruise also worked in reverse.

Talon Dancer posted a report just after he got his 3240HSD about 6 months ago. If I'm not mistaken the new 40 series is different that the 30 series. If you can't find his thread I'm sure he'll chime in shortly and answer any question you have.

I'll take a closer look tomorrow but I'm pretty certain the GL40's cruise control is mechanical. The difference in the GL40s Cruise Control is that the same mechanical cruise control behaves differently depending on whether you have auto throttle on or off.

With Auto Throttle OFF -- Cruise Control works just like you'd expect holding a relatively constant speed. What it is actually doing is acting like a "hand HST" lever.

With Auto Throttle ON -- Cruise Control works more like an "overdrive" lever allowing you to reduce the engine RPMs required to hold a given speed.

AFAIK the actual Cruise Control lever is doing exactly the same thing -- acting like a "hand HST" lever. But the result is different because of the more complex interaction with the foot HST pedal which with Auto Thottle ON does both -- increases the HST and throttle.

This all sounds very complicated to explain but is actually quite obvious in actual use.

Thankx, the cruise on my 3030 is similar, but there is no display for ground speed. Lawn chemicals have become so expensive, its now more than ever, very important to have your rate of application dead on! A display with cruise makes it a walk in the park.

The GL40's ground speed display is digital to 1/10th of a mile or km. It has a slight lag when speed changes quickly. But it settles down and remains steady thereafter.

Even with Auto Throttle OFF - the GL40s Cruise Control does not hold a fixed speed when going up and down hills. What it holds is a fixed amount of HST "pedal position". So it slows down going up hill and speeds up going down hill. But you can adjust the speed pretty easily using the Cruise Control lever.

The cruise on my 3030 was definately a step up from the cruise on my B7500. I notice on the 3030 that when i hold a speed with my foot and engauge the cruise lever, the machine drops back just a bit from origional speed when i take my foot off the pedel.

Looked at the cruise lever on my L5740 this morning. It has no mechanical linkage. It is just hooked to a potentiometer(variable resistance switch, kinda like a rheostat) . Looks like it is all electrically controlled, at least on the L5740.

I believe my 3940 is the same setup.

You guys are absolutely correct. My GL3240 Cruise Control lever is hooked up electrically. It's the HST H-M-L lever next to it that is mechanical
