I had my new 3540 HSDC working in the feild today. I was shocked at how much fuel she used, granted theres only 9 hours, so shes not broken in. Perhaps i was spoiled by years of my B series machines sipping fuel?

Lawn King lets go back to your original post

How much fuel did you burn, and what was the job the tractor was performing?

Boom spraying at 1200 rpm. 3.5-3.8 mph in mid range. Burning over 1 gal per hour.

I wonder if this will give you an accurate reading with some of the fuel going into the bypass.

The meter is in-line with the the filler hose and nozzle, so I don't think there is any path for the fuel to take other than out the nozzle.

Where you using the the cruise control or the pedal? Did you have the Auto throttle engaged?

Both, no auto throttle. Working 7 days right now 10 hours a day minimum. Just trying to get through the spring madness. I haven't even had a chance to program the stereo, it doe's however seem to be an upgrade unit from the stereo in the 3030 factory cab. I will try to post pictures of my package this weekend. At this piont all i can say is this grand L series is the real deal, serious machine, tons of power, beautiful cab, comfortable seat, well thought out operator station. This line is classified a compact, but these machines are not small!

Ask your customers to pay you in larger bills! Really cuts down in all that counting time!
Try to bear thru it!! After all they are the 111's paying for you new toys tools!!

L4740 with 20 hrs---1 gal/hr if mowing with RPM at 2600.

Job really effects the fuel consumption. Using the front loader in the auto throttle mode really saves on the petro. Constant discing v. plowing v. mowing are all different in fuel consumption.

Low hrs tractor will hopefully get more efficient like my TurboDiesel with age....

So if I'm reading this thread right, guys with up to 10 hp more and a cab get the same fuel consumption as I do? :(

I wish my car, truck, motorcycle, boat and plane used one gallon per hour, think about that :D
We all feel the fuel price pain and like we all know, it will only get worse as time goes on
I miss the old days and prices

Still not clear...on a diesel you have a low pressure feed to the injection pump, then the high pressure feed to the injector. Some have a bypass/overflow that runs back to the top of the tank, all have this overflow at the injector that runs to the top of the tank. This bypass/overflow goes through the low pressure fuel line but is not used bythe engine.

I mean...you want to be as accurate as possible if you are going to meter it.
For grins I attached a pic of my L, the blue is the low pressure side and the red is the high pressure side. It's not very fancy. :D

I think he is saying the meter is in his fuel storage, not his tractor.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The meter is on my fuel storage tank and pump, not on the tractor. I didn't have one before and had no way of knowing how much fuel I was pumping into the tractor when filling up, so I had no way to calculate fuel consumption.

I've seen those in-line meters for boats, and you bring up a good point about installing them for accuracy.

I expected this machine to use some fuel, its not light. I think its close to 5000 lbs with the cab and loader.

I use between 1 and 1.5 gal/hr on my L5030. I seem to remember that a salesman told me that Kubota sizes the fuel tank to use 1 tank per 8 hour day . . . My L5030 has an 11.4 gallon tank, so the arithmetic works out to around 1.4gal/hr.

Gotcha all beat. Was chisel plowing for the neighbor last week. Used his Steiger with 14L Cummins. Burned around 200 gallons for maybe 20 hours work. But I was being good....kept it right at 1800 RPM. She'd a gone a lot faster.

I pumped and pumped and pumped to fill the tank on that thing. Found out later it has a 250 gallon fuel tank.

Wait'll you see the price of food next year. Sure is a 'Good' thing food prices have no effect on inflation [insert head-scratch smiley here]
