One man's opinion only, but I use ISO100 compressor oil. When anything - including diesel fuel - is compressed, heat is generated. One of the byproducts is carbon. Compressor oil is formulated to suspend the otherwise unfiltered byproducts of compressed fuel delivery.

I thought compressor oil was non detergent.. and thus didn't suspens debri.. vs detergent oil.. that is designed to suspend debri, so that it can be removed in the filter.. etc.

(Aside from that.. I'm guessing any decent oil in the injector sump will be good.. etc.. )

We use 5W-30 as a default in most of our service area, New England. Only
a couple of complaints from guys in far Northern Maine about slow slew rates
on the throttle when she first starts up on very cold days. I suggest a light
machine or compressor oil and thats seems to do it. Remember there are no
by products of combustion in the pump.

I agree a ISO grade compressor oil is better suited for the need. Engine oil is not needed because there is no combustion contamination to deal with, only lubricating properties are needed.

You are correct, but one of the properties of the compressor oil formula IS to suspend carbon to prevent buildup on the valves. A compressor can't compress if the valves won't close. But I can see how that might sound like detergent action.
