Years ago I met a guy who was making $ coming and going. He had a small business with a few trucks/trailers and employees. He contracted to clean out chicken ranches then sold the manure to his customers as fertilizer/compost.

It could be worse, there have been some fairly large agricultural research experiments where they try to come up with ways to utilize chicken manure. It is gross, trully gross (to me) but one of the programs (your tax dolar at work) was to study its effectivity as cattle feed, yeah, feed it to cattle. Wana burger?

Things like that trully upset me. My tax money being spent trying to figure out how much chickem manure can be added into cattle feed cost effectively. This is NOT just a slight psychological hurdle but it is really OK, like how many insect parts per gram can be in peanut butter and still be USDA grade A. This was an attempt, on the part of the chicken industry, principally Arkansas to find a way around the tightening chicken manure disposal problems so the big money behind William Jefferson Clinton, Tyson et al, could keep the profits up. On one hand an administration that claimed to be environmentally sensitive but funds this, well literally, crap to avoid really hurting the moneyed interests.

Sorry, I'll get down off my soapbox. Just kidding, just kidding, it was just a coincidental juxtaposition of unrelated facts, nothing to wory about, I'm sure.

Glad I'm getting started raising my own.

We have a local egg farm that is looking to contract out 1000 to 1200 tons of chicken manure per year from each of its 70 barns. Talking about being full of it!!!!
