the hpx has a starting problem. here is what i got so for.
1.....i take the fuel line off the carb and crank it over and fuel comes out so i figure the fuel pump is working . it's making the regular noise and it'as pumping fuel so i crossed that one out.

2....i changed the plugs not with new ones but with some that was still good when i took them out "still no go"

3....i checked all the fuse and they are good.

now this is what she is doing i turn the key and she turns over and over/and over well you get the point. she will finally start after about 5 to 10 minutes of cranking after she's running she runs smooth no missing or nuthin. so what do you guys think?????? tomorrow i'm gonna go get a brand new set of plugs and try them but i really don't think it's the plugs. i do notice that the fuel filter don't even fill up half way even when she's running.is that good ?i was thinking of switching to a different filter something smaller.

First, I'm not a mechanic, but, shouldn't the fuel filter be full during running. For no air /or air gap should be in the line or filters. I know before one starts up it will ( or could ) have a air gap or filter not full, but once cranked-up it should all be pressured up and full of fuel.

I can remember at one time, we had a piece of equipment that the filter didn't stay full, and it ran like crap. Cranking it was horrible !!!! After a mechanic looked at it. and stated that the filter should aways stay full, well, final problem was the filter had a micro-pin hole in it, along with a pin hole on the induction side of the fuel line, which made it suck air, which caused the filter to hold a air pocket, which made it run bad. After the fixin', never had no more trouble ........

This might not have nothing to do with your problem, but thought I'd Just run that by you, might look into it >>>>>>>>>>

the filter never did fill up completely but i never notived how for it did fill up when it was running . it does have a big filter thats why i was thinking of getting a smaller one being it never filled up the big one??? but that could be a problem.

Do you have a spark at all?

Take the plugs and sit them on top of some metal part of the engine- a bolt or something, and have someone crank while you watch- see if there is a spark.

If you have a spark then you've got carb problems.

Mine was starting to do this and I had some trash in the carb.

Filter shouldn't affect it- wether the filter is full or not the flow rate will remain constant.

that's what i was thinkin about the filter being it never filled up and when i took the line off the carb and turned it over it pumped gas pretty good so i didn't think it was the filter . i'm gonna try the plug thing when my son gets home.

new plugs and nuthin.lol nuthin.
Sounds like your coil is bad to me. I have a Stihl weedeater that would do the same thing. Pull and pull and pull and pull and then it would start and run o.k. The next time pull and pull etc...

Got the coil checked and it was bad. Now it cranks on the 2nd pull. Man I wish I had taken it to the repair shop a lot earlier.

found out the problem it's the pulse coil that goes on the fly wheel. when i went to the deere dealer qnd was talking to the mechanic i asked why there wasn't any adjustments on there like a regular coil on a lawnmower and i told him that there was a huge gap. he told me that there shouldn't be a gap and that that was the first time he seen that it wasn'r adjustable so i figured i would go home and dremale out the holes so i could adjust it. and it worked she's running againand better too. so now i'm gonna order me a new one.

man when i went to the dealer today i had a few of them eletrical boxs with me and asked him if he could test them for me.lol i had back tracked wires all over. but one good thing every connection on the motor is clean now and mud free. they was all caked with mud on the inside of the conections so i blew them out with that clp cleaner stuff . i tell you i got one of the best maintained 04 hpx's out there.lol i still never changed the cracked fenders though. i figured if i sell it then i will but as for now i'm gonna wait til i put sone 26's on . i figure i'll just crack them too if i swap them out right now.

my fix was a temporary one . i went ride to the dump today to drop off some old a/c carcusases and it wanted to die out on me on the way home. well right infront of my buddies house she back-fired with both cylinders.lmao. han i blew out a ton of carbon that has built up during the past 4 years. and my buddy came runnin out on his porch thinkin someone was shootin in the road.well i just made it home and she died a peacful death in the yard.i went order the part today and it should be in tomorrow had the next day shipping thing done.it's called a pulser coil and if any of you hpx's or xuv's have this happen thats what to look at infact if you do any mud riding and it's over a year old i would check it out if not change it.it's only 43.00 but you'll be glad you did change it .if not just keep the new one handy so you can change it when needed.

Spark, fuel, air - all it takes to run.

Sounds like you are getting closer.
