Georgia y'all
I recently bought an 8 yard Hancock self loading dirt pan and a 160 hp Ford TW-30 tractor on Ebay. The pan was in IL and the tractor was in TN. They arrived on the same truck a few days ago.

The dirt pan is plenty old but just slightly used. Had to replace one hose and do some limbering up but everything on it is working well. Not bad for $1625. I bet it weighs at least 5 tons.

The tractor is a Ford TW-30 with cab and air. It cranks and runs good and it seems to need only minor repairs such as tach, a couple of gauges, lights, wobbly steering wheel, AC blower motor, AC freezes up, fuel leak, etc.

The doors and windows are all good and the cab interior is good, especially for a 25 year old tractor and a price of $6800. It's loaded with front and rear weights. I believe it weighs about 8 tons. I'll also use it for round baling next summer.

Freight was $1650 so total delivered cost is just over $10,000. I'll probably have to spend $1,500 - $2,000 fixing up the tractor.

I want to upload pics but the photo gallery won't let me log in. Any suggestions? I'm using the same username and pw as for the forums. Tried pm'ing the moderator but no answer.

Sounds like you have a nice set up!

The typical issue is that the size of the pictures is too big. I have never been asked to log in for the photo gallery. You are using the "go advanced" button and clicking the "manage attachments" button, right?

Sounds like you got a great deal on that heavy equipment :D

As for the pics, try using Photobucket

Just make an account and upload your pictures there. Then, when you want to post pics in the thread, just copy the IMG the code from under the picture.

If you want to be really nice to us people still on slow internet connections you could make a clickable thumbnail by ticking the little box under the photo you want to post then go to the bottom of the photobucket page. Click on Generate HTML Code and then select the third one down - IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards.

Then past this code in the box where you type the message and the pcis will be in the thread. Much easier than the boards uploading system I think :D

You guys in England need to get around to installing broadband... It never fails to amaze me whenever I go over there that most people still don't have broadband access! What gives?

BTW, Gabby, sounds like you found some good machinery for a real good price. Did you buy them sight unseen, or go look at them first? Ebay can be handy with good deals, but you need to be careful with it...

Hey Blue,
Bought them sight unseen. I did have some email contact with the seller of the pan through Ebay, but you never know for sure until it arrives. I was the only bidder until less than 10 seconds to go but I was ready and I got in a new maximum bid just in time.

The tractor sold the next day and it was a pure shot in the dark. I put in bid number 10 with two hours to go and I was really counting on another bidder to bump me and I would be out. Didn't happen. When it went down and I was the winner, I thought "Oh s#$%, I'm the dog who caught the car. Now what am I going to do??"

So far I'm happy, but the shakedown cruise is just starting!

dialup isn't just for our friends on the other side of the pond.
Lots of us in rural America don't have an option for highspeed or broadband internet either.

They look pretty good. What have you got planned for them?

Next time you use photobucket, rather than posting the URL links, take the IMG code that is at the bottom of the list under the photos. That will put it in like this :

versatile.jpg

Or, select the tickbox under the photo and then click generate HTML and IMG Code. Then copy the third one down and it will put it in like this :

I like these the best as they are perfect for the slow internet connections :D

Thanks for posting the pics anyway :)

I would love to have broadband.... But I have been told I am never likely to get it where we live now. We don't even have a clear telephone line... there are so many electric fences near the line we have a constant tick tick tick

Thats the problem with living in the middle of no where in Devon

Got enough ponds already so I'm going to use it to rearrange some terrain, such as skimming off old terraces in the hay fields and filling in the dips. . .

OK, I admit it. I just plain wanted a dirt pan and I didn't want a little one. Plus I needed a bigger tractor with a cab and AC for round baling next year. So there you go, the tractor is multipurpose (and huge) and the pan is sort of huge but it was cheap!

The difference between men and boys is the size of their toys, right?? (grin)

Gabby,
Now you need to edit your signature to include the new additions to the family.

Trust me, if I lived near that thing and the price was like that, I would have bought it :D

Just it would have been about 100 times more expensive in the UK

Great looking tractor and scraper.

You got an excellent price on that TW-30, which retails around $10,500 or better. Nice going.

You also got a nice price on the trucking. How many miles was the tractor hauled?

Did you use one of those Internet escrow services? PayPal? Any problems with the transaction?

If Photobucket becomes frustrating Gabby, try Google's Picasa. It's simple, it works and it doesn't have a lot of unnecessary bells & whistles.

I gave up on TBN's photo gallery because I ran into the same problem as you and the moderators never returned requests for help.

www.google.com or www.google.com/picasa

That is one big tractor and dirt eater! You'll have lots of fun with those things... Thanks for the pics!

Erik/Grrr, try satellite... Its expensive ($59.99/month), but worth it... I was used to cable modem when I moved further into the woods, so I had to get it! Is it available in England?

I think the haul was about 1000 miles including the second stop in TN. I used the trucking company that hauls new JD tractors from the nearby assembly plant in Grovetown so they used it as a backhaul. Worked out very well.

No I didn't use an escrow service or Paypal and there weren't any problems. I wire tranferrred the money to the sellers.

I also bought my 335 Ford industrial loader tractor on Ebay a few years ago and it worked out OK.

I've learned to spend the first month chasing boogers and replacing stuff on used tractors that I've bought. I fugure that as long as the major mechanical stuff is working I can get the small stuff fixed and come out OK.

I also bought a factory rebuilt diesel engine for my 4600 Ford on Ebay a few years ago. Still in the factory crate with factory tags. $2000 including shipping. It was a buy it now item and I bought it quickly. It was part of an estate. Paid for it with Paypal.

I have never seen satelite availible in England but I could be wrong.

We will have to look into getting something better than what we got now...

British Telecoms said they could bring us another 56K modem and join them together....

That's been a feature in Microsoft for a number of years, going back to Win98 IIRC. You do need a separate phone line for each modem, but it does work to double the bandwidth.
